Have an error code er -1 on kenmore elite 4 door fridge/freezer unit. what is it and how do I clear it? also, none of the push buttons on the display panel work now. otherwise the unit seems to be working fine.

faulty cercit board is what you have there sorry to say but it dose happen every so often get in touch with the poeple who you got it off and have the engineer look at it

This is an error code that pertains to the evaporator motor but could also be the main board.
If the evaporator motor is running, the main board will probably need to be replaced.
It could be a wiring problem but it's not very likely.

If the motor is not running, some voltage checks will need to be made, at the motor and board, to determine which component has failed.
These checks require a meter and can be difficult to make, even for a technician.

I pulled plug out of the wall socket waited a minute re-plugged unit in and so far error hasn't come back.

This is an error code for the icemaker fan motor.
If the control does not see a signal coming back from the fan motor you will get this error code.
Please see the image below from the service manual that explains the ER IF error code.

The ER IF code indicates a failure of the icing fan.

You may notice slower ice production but the other fans should be okay.

You can select the ultra ice option and see if the fan toggles on.

The fan or the control is bad.

Er-FS error code: Failure of freezer sensor.
I have been finding the fuseable link in the defrost system on these models open preventing the defrost cycle.
This would involve removing the freezer back panel and removing the sensor and fuse from the evaporator.
It's just a plug in.

Did you turn the refrigerator and freezer on to the proper cooling adjustments as in the user manual?
Is the ice maker hooked up to the water line and in the on position?
Did you use the free help line if you are doing it your elf?


While I look it up, you can try to reset the system by plugging the fridge for 5 minutes, or if you can not reach the plug, then throw the breaker for 5 minutes.
Not less than 3 minutes. That is why I sad, 5minutes.
Usually this will do it! let me know as I look up the error codes.

Bad icemaker fan. When looking in the freezer, its the one on the left.

I faced the same problem for Kenmore elite Trio Model # 795.77543600 bottom freezer refrigerator. The issue as pointed out by Medeer on fixya.com, turned out to be the part called component assembly, part number 6615JB2005H. I got this replaced yesterday but for 4 hours I did not notice any cooling... so I thought it did not work.... but then in the morning I notice that the issue has been resolved, the refrigerator is cold and there is no eR dH error message. Thanks to all who shared on this site.
