The 5 blinks on the LED means that the main logic D board is defective and will need to be replace to fix the TV. Check this site to find replacement parts to fix your plasma if you intend to DIY.

seven blinks on this model is the SC board. it will need a new SC board and the software update for the new board. usually only authorized servicers have the software need to do the upgrade. but if you were to contact panasonic then they might be able to have it fixed for you for free since this was a defect in manufacturing. of course this depends on how long you have had the tv.
I contacted Panasonic and it seems that they will take care of the problem even though the TV is out of the 1 year warranty. They are aware that this is a manufacturing defect, apparently. I'll follow up later to let you know how it turns out.
