Hi, I just purchased an older style washer dryer combo. When loaded (with as little as two towels) it doesn't agitate or spin. Belt is fine. Drum starts to turn but can't make it up the hill. Any sugg

Your motor may be having trouble starting due to a bad capacitor or start winding in the motor. Ideally you want to use a multimeter to test resistance of the start winding.

Doesn't spin during spin cycle

What happens over time is the lid gets a little bent from use , reason it wont start unless lid is put down is because there is a lid switch that is called a safety switch, you might have to bend down lid some or this: Ok, first check under the lid, there is a peg that goes into the top edge of the washer. That is a switch. The idea between this is that it is a safety feature for mostly kids, so that when the washer is on that high speed spin cycle, that a child does not open up lid and stick there arm or hand in and have it injured. Most washer are designed so that the washer will only spin when the washing machine lid is down. So, of course you have it down, but sometimes the lid might have got a little bent or warped. So first try with lid down pushing down on lid while on spin cycle. If still wont spin, most likely it is that switch that that peg goes into, if you take a knife or flat head screw driver, with lid up on spin cycle and push into that hole with the knife or flat head screw driver and do not here a click when pushing it and releasing it, then you need to replace that switch, it is pretty cheep, normally under 20 bucks and a appliance store and when picking up the part they can tell you exactly how to replace it yourself, it is pretty easy and only takes a few minutes.

Washer pumps but half the time it won't spin unless you give the basket a little push. I use a small magnet to keep the lid relay closed. Once I give the basket a little push, the washer starts to...

Quite likely the spin motor is a capacitor start type motor and has a capacitor to start it (by placing a winding slightly out of phase with the rest of the motor in turn encouraging the movement of the motor). When it reaches about 200 RPM the capacitor is disconnected and runs without it.
Maybe the start capacitor is faulty or the internal switch/electronic control is faulty?

Doesn't spin or agitate

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

When the washer fills but does not agitate or spin then you can check if the lid switch is fine. You can jump start the lid switch by connecting both the wires with each other or use the third wire to act as jumper between the two. After this if the problem is solved then replacing lid switch is recommended repair. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

I have a kenmore 80 series and its not spinning out the water.

does it drain out the water and spin but the clothes are still wet or is it not draining or spinning?set the timer to spin, open the lid and stick a screw driver into the lid switch hole and see if it spins and drains, also if it doesn't push down and let the switch up,or close the lid down and open it a little do this a few times, you should hear the switch make a clicking sound,if it doesn't click you have a bad lid switch.if the machine is draining and spinning but the clothes are wet,do the same thing with the lid switch and watch it spin with the lid open,is it spinning fast,if not you have a bad transmission and it's not spinning fast enough to remove the water out of the clothes or you could have a kink in the drain hose or something in the pump and it's not draining all the way.let me know what you find and send the model number off of the washer, the number should start with like 110.

Washer does not spin. when it should be spinning it buzzes. I gave the tub a push start and it did rotate slowly. the washer does rotate for washing

Possible that the drive is jammed or the motor is faulty , the voltage to the motor is low. If there is a capacitor to the motor then the capacitor can be weak and might result in slow start.
