It probably isn't the circuit breaker. The magnetic field has likely weakened (especially if the generator has not been used in a while). The magnet can be "flashed" by running a current through the generator briefly. The easiest way to do this is to plug in a motor and spin it backwards (by hand) while the generator is running (e.g. an electric drill). The drill acts as a weak generator when you put the energy into it by spinning it.

A previous answer I gave to the same problem...

Look in the manual. There is likely something about field flashing the magnetic fieldgenerator runs but can't reset circuit breaker - 2.gif. According to the Briggs and Straton web site (similar solution for all generators), the easiest way to do this is to.
1) start the generator
2) plug an electric drill into the generator (without drill bit)
3) make sure drill is set to forward direction (if a reversable drill.
4) pull the trigger on the drill.
5) If the drill does not start, spin the drill's chuck in reverse [clockwise (When looking down at the chuck from the drill bit end). Spin counter-clockwise if holding it like a pistol and pointing away from yourself].
6) Do this several times (hard) until the the generator will kick in and suddenly make the drill spin at full speed.
Be careful not to drop the drill or poke someone with it as you celebrate success.

SOURCE: Generator is running well, but no power to

Replace the sockets they have most likely gone bad, I have found this on a lot of generators I've worked on.

SOURCE: Lombardini diesel generator starts and runs fine but no elecpower

remove the covering panel and expose the internals , check for loose/disscontected push on ( lucar ) connectors , if these are fine it is most likely the excitation capacitor is deffective , replace with exactly the same value/voltage rating/duty cycle . the capacitor is usual 1 or up to 3 cylindrical tubes with 2 wires comming from them , always take a note of exactly what wires you have taken off :) hope this helps

Briggs and Stratton Elite Generator. It runs but no A.C. current output.

If you have already replaced the voltage regulator and checked the grounding wire, the next step would be to check the circuit breaker.
Here's how you can check the circuit breaker:
  1. Turn off the generator and unplug all appliances connected to it.
  2. Open the generator's control panel to access the circuit breaker.
  3. Check the circuit breaker for any signs of damage, such as burnt or melted parts, or loose connections.
  4. If there is no visible damage, use a multimeter to test the circuit breaker. Set the multimeter to measure resistance (ohms) and touch the probes to the terminals of the circuit breaker. If the circuit breaker is working properly, the multimeter should show zero resistance.
  5. If the circuit breaker is faulty, it will need to be replaced. You can contact the manufacturer or a qualified technician for assistance with replacing the circuit breaker.
It is also possible that the generator's stator or rotor has been damaged, which could be causing the lack of AC output. In this case, you may need to contact the manufacturer or a qualified technician for further diagnosis and repair.
Please note that working with electricity can be dangerous and should only be attempted by those with the appropriate training and experience. If you are not comfortable performing these checks yourself, it is recommended to seek the assistance of a qualified technician.

I have a briggs and stratton 8500/5500 generator which I am using to power an air conditioner on a camper trailer. I just recently started having a problem where the one circuit breaker keeps tripping when...

Hello, First figure out what the load per leg is on your generator. Are you using the 240 Volts because this is two 120 AC volts legs and they are 120 degrees out of phase with each other.

You will need to figure what the power factor is for each phase on this generator. To figure the power/wattage by using ohm's law. Voltage times Current will give you Watts. Example: If the generator is generator 240 volts the maximum current available is about 23 amps. The maximum current for 120 volts will 46 amps. Therefore, the maximum current per 120 volt circuit is 23 amps for one circuit and 23 amps for the second 120 circuit..

I would try replacing the circuit breaker with the same amperage breaker. Also, watch what the generator load is per circuit. You can install current meter for each circuit. This will give a good indication of which circuit is pulling more load than the other circuit. GB...stewbison

Hi, we have a square d 200amp ckt brker that we want to reset after we take our generator offline. we noticed that there is a black plastic tab that prevents you from resetting it. how can we reset it?...

Do you have a Square D "QO" panel - or a Square D "Homeline" panel (or a different brand panel completely)? If possible, please provide the catalog number of the circuit breaker.

Nearly all circuit breakers that are TRIPPED (handle is at the midpoint between ON and OFF) must be RESET by pushing the handle to the OFF position - then pushed the other way to the ON position. A circuit breaker that is in the OFF position, does not need to be RESET, and need only be pushed to the ON position.

It is advisable to shut off ALL the other circuit breakers in the panel, then turn on the 200 amp breaker. After the 200 amp breaker is on, turn on the largest value (in amps) double pole breakers and finally all the single pole breakers largest values down to 15 amps. This prevents switching one very large load all at once.

How do I remove the fuses from my proforce 3000 generator

Hello, I am not familiar with fuses on this model. It has circuit breakers that are on the main electrical outlet panel. These generally are press to reset. If you are experiencing the circuit breakers "tripping" on you, then your load is too great for that circuit. You might have to split loads between all the receptacles. If you are wanting to remove the circuit breakers, in order to keep the circuit supplying power because of the nuisance factor of resetting, then I would advise against it. You might burn out the generator part and this can lead to a very costly failure.

DEWALT DG6300B NO POWER OUTPUT

Hello avid.....

If there is no power to the receptacles:

1. Turn the circuit breaker switches off and disconnect all electrical loads from the generator.

2. Turn the circuit breakers on and test the GFCI's by following the procedures in this manual

on page 1 -

TO TEST A GFCI:

Start the generator. Turn the auto idle switch off. Push in the TEST button (A) on the receptacle.

The RESET button (B) will pop out. Power is now off at the receptacle.

If the RESET button does not pop out, the GFCI is not working. Do not run

generator until the problem can be corrected. To restore power to receptacle,

push the RESET button in. If the RESET button pops out during operation,
stop the generator and check the generator and equipment for defects.

3. Place the voltage selector to the 120 Volt only positions (unless you are using a tool that

requires 240 Volts).

4. Turn the idle control switch off.

5. Turn the circuit breaker(s) off and reconnect the electrical loads. Be sure that the plugs are

securely connected to the receptacles.

6. Turn the circuit breaker(s) on.

7. If there is still no power at the receptacles, take the generator to an authorized DEWALT
service center. To locate a DEWALT service center nearest to you, call 1-800-4-DEWALT

McCulloch Generator model FG6000mk 11hp run good until I turn on generator then stop running do you think the generator bad and can it be rebuild ?

I did not understand how you turn on generator, as it is always turned on.
If you use the ON/OFF switch it is stopping the prime mover.
If you reset the AC breaker without load, and it stops - it means that you have short circuit after the breaker. Check the output receptacles.

Coleman Powermate 5000 reset problem

Yes, there must be a protection device on the unit somewhere. It should be indicated in the owners manual. It may be on the box the outlets are in, or built into the cover of the generation unit.
