Hi.
I am not a professional fisherman, but I like fishing. For that reason when my clothes smell fish, that means that I caught a good prey, I am happy about the smell and throw the smelly clothes to my wife. I never thought about the problem.

However, after reading your question I had a look on the Internet, and I noticed you already tried the most popular solutions.
I found this thread , where poster are suggesting a number of remedies to get rid of the smell. Have a look. You will need to scroll down the page to find suggestions.
All the best.
G.

Hi! We bought our WM2455H washer on February 1/2009 from Best Buy. Suddenly on several washes my clothes become spotted with brown grease. It does not occur at every wash, but what is happening. Please...

Do a tub clean cycle. Hottest water, no clothes, cup of bleach in washer, fill bleach dispenser with bleach, fill softener with bleach. Run once or twice. The 'grease' is actually residue from liquid detergent and/or softener. So stop using liquid detergent and switch to powdered (no residue believe it or not). Use plain white vinegar in place of softener. The acid eliminates the mildew residue and also helps get detergent residue out of your clothes. Good luck.

The grey rubber door seal in our Electrolux EW1080 F has lots of black mould trapped inside it. Is there any way to remove the entire seal to clean it or do you just have to try your best to wipe around...

Don't use eucalyptus oil, because it will damage the rubber, and the smell will linger.
The black mould should be wiped off using a damp soft cloth and mild detergent. Diluted bleach (1 part in 10 parts cold water) can also be used, with care (wear gloves); don't use full-strength bleach, because it can damage rubber and corrode metal. Leave the door and detergent drawer open between washes and overnight to keep air circulating through the machine. This will slow down the regrowth of mould. For further improvement, wipe the seal dry after each use of the machine. If your laundry room remains steamy or damp for hours after washing, improve the ventilation

Bought house and deep freeze stayed, looks relatively new, maybe 7-10 years old, we defrosted it, and vacuumed out the excess water and had it unplugged for about a week before plugging back in and no...

Spray it out with neat bleach (wear old clothes), lemon scented works well, then flush the unit out with water, I use a high pressure cleaner but hose will do, tip it on its side if needs be, it wont harm it. Ensure not to get water in any of the electrics, allow a day to dry out and hay presto, a fresh smelling freezer.
Hope that helps, please dont forget to vote.

Our clothes are coming out of the washer with a rotten smell. I have tried Tied Washing Machine cleaner and the vinegar/soda mix...but no change.

Try running a cycle, at highest level, with hot water. When the tub is about ready to drain, connect the drain hose to a water hose, and let it drain through the water hose to outside. See if the water has a smell / any "floaties" that may indicate a mold / mildew growing inside the agitator. You can try to over fill (fill to highest level, then add water using a bucket) with water and add a large amount of bleach. Let it sit overnight, and run a few cycles to rinse out the bleach residue

Have you noticed a similar smell from the hot water when taking a shower / doing dishes / washing hands? You could have bacteria growing in your water heater. Shocking it (with granulized bleach - see owners manual) will help clear this up. If you are on a well, you may also be getting sulfur or Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) into your well water as well.

Hi! Is it safe to run a cycle with just bleach in it to rid the drum of any odors

No. Bleach residue will possibly mark or desolve the fabric in the next wash Suggest a hot wah with out clothes in to remove undesolved soaps.(That is a big contributer to smells).

Hi We Have a ge front load washer and dryer and it seems that our clothes smell musty at times. I've tried leaving the door open on the washer when not in use. Could there be another prooblem??

Try using vinegar, baking soda, or bleach in an empty load to counteract any residues left in onboard water. Also check for debris stuck in door baffle(rubber sleeve between door and tub).

Disgusting odor

I had the same problem, except it wasn't just towels. It was everything. I did some research and found that this is a common problem and nothing a tech can fix. I was about to go out this weekend and spend $1000 on a new washer because I couldn't use this washer on my clothes anymore. I did one more search for a solution and THANK GOODNESS found a solution on another site. A woman had the same problem and, after much trouble, someone at Best Buy finally told her to never use liquid detergent in the machine, not even HE. So I cleaned the inside of my machine, around the door, the rubber seal, etc. I ran the tub clean cycle with bleach and vinegar. The smell was gone and I have been using powder Tide ever since, and the smell hasn't come back!!!!!

Kenmore washer smells/mildew on rubber

The smell problem is actually because of the softener....its nassssty stuff it coats the interior of the washer and forms a grease like residue. I would use Washer Magic (available at all appliance parts retailers) (only half the container in front loaders) and a hot wash. Also keep spraying the boot with bleach and water soluiton every few hours it will dissappear after awhile. please rate my help

Smells of mildew and so do clothes

If the odor does not go away, it is probably time to change the rubber door boot, or you have something stuck in the drain. Take a good look at the rubber around the door. If it has mildew spots and/or mold, it generally won't go away. Pull the rubber back a bit and look BEHIND the boot as well. You may have some lost items stuck in the boot causing the odor. Last of all, UNPLUG the washer and remove the lower kick panel under the door by removing the three 7mm screws and check the drain pump for foreign objects. There's only one pump inside the washer so it won't be too hard to find. It is usually white in color and has a screw off access cover. There is a bit of residual water that remains in the wash tub all the time. You will need to drain this first or you will have a mess to clean up. You can use some towels or use a shop vac. If you use towels, lay them down around the drain pump and remove the access cover. If you use a shop vac, pull all the residual water from the wash tub through the drain line. Sometimes this pump will build up with all kinds of scunge from soap residue and/or foreign object getting caught. Clean it out real well and run the washer on a bleach cycle with the hottest water setting you have. Let me know if any of this helps you. If you decide to change to door boot, post a response to this solution and I will give you step-by-step procedures.
