Coleman/Honda Generator - No Electricity

Motor runs fine and starts on first pull, but no juice out of generator. it's not the fuse, because we tested the voltage on the leads coming right out of the generator. We replaced a part that looked bad, it may be called an AVR module, and still no electricity. any idea on what to check next? Model Number is PM0497002 and Serial Number is F19610148. Thanks, Chad

Take a look at the fuse...if it seemed burnt then replace it.
if not.
then check the breaker...try connectting your voltmeter directly to the wire that goes into the breaker(directly to the +) and the other side to the regular (-).
if it read 220 volts then the breaker is down...so replace it...or you can use the outlet directly.
however if it didn't read any voltage,
then you should check the brushes...they are right next to the AVR module...(the two wires that come out of the AVR are connected to the brushes)
if the brushes are shattered or if there is no connection between each brush and it's connector then replace the brushes..
but if they seemed fine.then your problem is with the wires...trace every wire and check for continuity.
the problem has to be one of the things i mentioned.

I've got a coleman 6250 that runs great! Motor wise that is. There's apparently no electricity coming out, and the brushes are new. I'm at a loss...any suggestions?

Shut it off, restart. May have condensation. This happened to me with a generac. OH! OH! OH! Check your fuses! Generator will start, but produce nothing MAY just be a fuse.

Starts fine...no juice....sat for 10 years in the box...started using it 3 weeks ago...worked fine until yesterday....starts...runs..no juice...no circuit breakers blown...what's up?

Colemans were known for losing what is known as "residual magnetism", especially when sitting for long periods of time without use. This residual magnetism is necessary for exciting the field to produce electricity. Here is what you can try: Plug a 110v drill into one of the 110 outlets. While the engine/generator is running, with an open hand (not fingers wrapped around it) spin the chuck while holding the drill trigger in the run position. Many times this small amount of current that will be produced by spinning the drill motor will restore the residual magnetism and excite the field. Keep in mind that if this works, the drill motor will begin to spin immediately since it is plugged into the outlet. Hope this helps.

Coleman Powermate Powerbase 4000 -no AC Need Field test procedur

Check the voltage sent to the field when running. It will probably be around 12 volts. You can try connecting a lantern battery BRIEFLY to the field to re-magnetize the field. Try bothe polarites.

Some have had a bad rectifier and one had a bad transformer that generaates the low voltage from the generated output. He had a broken wire from the winding to the wire from the transformer. He was able to reconnect the failed solder joint.

My coleman powermate 6250 generator just stopped producing electricity. It was running all day. Motor still runs just no juice.

check the reset-- if power to reset line, switch bad if no power -check feed out from generator if no out put then possible internal problem --winding or short

Coleman mach fan runs fine but A/C hums intermittently like it wants to start but won't. I'm running it with a Honda 2000 generator. Generator ran out of gas, when I restarted the generator the A/C would...

The issue with the generator that gets low and high when it start running out of gas that effect the A/C and result of high voltage getting to the unit and burn the capacitors and it should by saved by the fuse make sure that the gen not run out of gas if you have the A/C on and that the fuse is the correct one for the A/C and again check the air and see you may got a bad capacitor.
....let me know if that work for you and please do not forget to rate my service so I am able to continue providing same...god bless

Generator runs great but doesn't produce any power

There is a electronic module that senses load current that pulls the throttle up for high RPM. Fine the module and look it over, you may need to replace it.

Coleman 5KW gen motor shuts down when A/C switch turned on

Sounds like a problem with the wiring of the outlets after the circuit breaksr. Take apart the outlet box and have a look for burned or broken wires, melted outlets, and/or small critters stuck in the wiring.
I recently had to repair a generator that had its voltage regulator taken out by a frog!

Coleman Powermate 5000 reset problem

Yes, there must be a protection device on the unit somewhere. It should be indicated in the owners manual. It may be on the box the outlets are in, or built into the cover of the generation unit.
