I just bought a house with the Night Sentry EJ351 timer. There was no instruction manual with it so I do not know how to set the timer. It is hard wired in the garage and set to operate outside lighting. I am looking for help to set the timer for the lights to come on at dusk and go off at dawn.

Here is a reply in plain english, from the manufacturer's manual on their website of discontinued, (obsolete) equipment. The link can be found here as long as they keep it alive.

Turn it to off (clear) for 20 seconds, then turn it on. make sure the light is blinking. turn it to the right time (turn atleast 1 time) and push it, the light is going to go off, that sets your time at that time, the light will stop blinking. then turn till what time you want it to go on, and push again the light will go on. then push till the time you want it off and push, the light will go off. for about 6-8 times. and then turn it till the light go's on that means your timer is on and working

I need to know how to set the "Sentry" time that came with the house I've bought. Thanks. James

1) It sounds like you have the EJ351.
Intermatic EJ351 is sometimes sold as Sentry

2) Open following link for the manual:

3) Add a comment if this is not your timer, and say more detail about the timer.
I have extensive files on timers and might be able to find same-similar product.

I have the Sentry - timer for my outside lights. One dial is for pm and one for am. The lights are not going on when I put the dial on 7:30 pm. I have to manually turn them on and then off in the morning,

Ginger,

It sounds like an older Intermatic timer
Does your timer look similar to this timer? EJ351
Here are the instructions for this timer:
Usually if the timer is still made, I can find a manual and piece together a solution... but I don't know this timer, and if it is malfunctioning ....

It may be time for a new timer > the EJ351 is inexpensive, simple to install (just 2 wires) and simple to program >>> one knob controls both AM-PM.

Need instructions

I have a similar sounding timer. It has the same dial and an AM/PM window on it and is made by Dynascan. I found this post on Fixya: http://www.fixya.com/support/t2314418-instructions_program_intermatic_ej351c and then went to the intermatic site and got these instructions: http://www.intermatic.com/~/media/files/intermatic/products/instructions/timers/ej351c%20-%20english.ashx I used the RAPID programming instructions and they seemed to work great (at least the red light acted like it was supposed to.) Guess I'll find out tonight :)
