Picture problems I have a 48 in rca rear projection tv. it is 3 yrs old. Lately the picture gets bigger then the screen, then it goes back to normal and then it shrinks small and there are grey edges along the sides then it all goes back to normal and it keeps doing this while watching. It gets worse on the really high channels such as 500 plus and the pay per view stations. I called dish network but they said it was a tv problem. I went into the tv remote menu and checked the tv format. But still it doesnt work properly ,, what can I do?

Red shadow

Projection TV sets have two very common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Projects picture bigger than screen..

This must be a duplicate, and since I'm not sure which one you'll be checking back with: Go into the menu and select picture settings and then advanced picture settings. I'm not sure on that model that you can manually change the aspect ratio from zoom to 16:9 or 4:3 ect... But select Auto Format and the TV will pre-select the correct format for viewing..... Any questions just let me know. Bill
