I have an LG washer that smells like rotten clothes. My clothes come out smelling real bad. I checked inside and noticed that the rubber seal around the door is holding moldy rotton gunk. It's not self cleaning that part of the washer. There are drain holes in the bottom that seem to not be doing the job. The model is LG Tromm 4.0 ulta capacity steam washer.

Run a cup each of baking soda and vineger thru a hot wash. Might have to do this a couple of time if smell really bad.

Take out the unit where the liquid soap, softner, etc goes and clean by hand.

Soak a cloth in vinegar and clean the inside of the rubber around the tub.

And finally DO NOT LEAVE THE DOOR CLOSED IF NOT IN USE.

You can use Affresh to clean your front loader. Deposits of soap and other such things can be stuck around the inside tub of your washer. Try this product, it works great on all front loaders. Use very hot water with the Affresh pellet with no clothes and run the machine through a cycle. Also helps with any stagnant water smells. Put the Affresh pellet inside the machine, not in the soap dispenser.

Lg washer/ frontloader

Take a hand towel soaked in vinegar, then run it around the rubber seal around the front of the door, making sure you get all the way under. Then run a load of whites with javex or vinegar. Always leave the door ajar after you are done washing, or that mildew smell will re-appear.

Washer smells bad

Whirlpool and Tide make a cleaner that you put into the washer and run it through a cycle. Front loaders get a build-up that cannot be cleaned by hand. Make sure you are using a detergent that is marked "HE". Do not overfill the detergent or softener cups. I've heard that other used a lot of bleach in a wash cycle to clear out the smell. Bleach is bad to use if you're on a septic system, though.

LG washing machine has AWFUL mildew smell

Causes of grease, slime and black mould inside washing machine Your problem has nothing to do with the washing machine, any washing machine - even the best can be affected. I suspect your problem is mostly related to using liquid detergents that contain no bleaching agents

Mold & Smelly in Washer

Thanks for your suggestion about looking in the lip of the seal. I found one of my three year old granddaughters socks. Also, the seal for very dirty so I mixed a 50% solution and 50% solution of chlorox and used an old towel rag to wipe and wash throughly around the lip seal.

I noted that the aluminum ring inside the washer had also accumulated a lot of dirt. With one hand and fingers I held the wet cholorx towel inside the ring and with the other hand spun the tub around several turns until I had removed all the dirt and grime.

It did have a moldy smell. I'll let you know if this fixed the problem.

this sounds like you need the rubber replacing around the drum that seals the door to stop it leakig when the washing machine is in teh spin cycle this gets hot and starts to smell this can get really bad and will eventually start to leak this can be replaced but you will need to get someone to do it for you as it is a big job shouldnt cost to much to get done but will be cheaper than replacing the whole machine hope this is some help................

Build up of black "gook"

I also have had issues with a bad smelling LG Tromm 2277 washer when we leave the door closed after using it. One note on the LG site mentions that soap/scum buildup on the washer drum can encourage mold growth. They suggested running an empty wash load and then pause it after the water fills and add a hot tub cleaning product (Whirl Out - I got it at Lowe's) and restart the load. This stuff should help remove the soap scum and limit the smelly mold growth. My washer does not smell as bad after using it. I also have run an empty cycle with only bleach using the very hot sanitary load setting.
