If the water comes out when filling, check your water valve by unplugging the washer when it is filling. If the water still runs, replace the valve. If the water stops, check the small tube that goes from the water pressure switch (in the consul) to the bottom of the tub. This must be connected without any holes or obstructions. If this is ok, replace the water pressure switch.

Maytag washer overflows

Remove and clean the water level tube that connects to the tub at one end and to the water level switch at the other end. Probably it is full of gunk.

I would recommend calling your homeowners insurance and having them take care of the damage. As far as what is wrong with the washer? That needs to be diagnosed. I found this link: http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/questions/200684-why-does-my-maytag-washing-machine-overflow

Washer overflowed after moving Load Capacity Switch from Super to reset and then to Large load?

On this model of washer you have 4 separate components that could cause overflowing. The water valve, pressure switch, pressure switch hose & the air dome. If you have to turn the water off to prevent overflowing, I would recommend replacing the water valve. If you can turn the timer off & the water stops overflowing, I would recommend checking the pressure switch, hose & air dome.

Water was overflowing over the top and flooding the laundry room

If it was left in the reset position then it could absolutely pushed the diaphragm in the air switch to a point that the contactor couldn't reach it. Set it on a large load, let it fill and watch it. If it starts to overflow, pull the plug out, if it continues filling, you need a new water valve on the washing machine and if it stops then you need a new level switch

Wo'nt stop filling with water and overflows.

If it fills with water while the machine is off replace the water inlet valve.
It is only overfills while machine is on, check the water level switch and the plastic tube going to the water level switch. The tube may be pinched or have a hole it it.

GE WJRR4170 washer comes out of overflow tube on super load. It does not on Large load size. I have the front off and can see a large difference in water level from large to super size. Is this adjustable?

I have a 2005 model GE washer that would overfill only on SUPER size load. After looking around on the web, then inside the machine, I checked the tube from the tub to the switch, no problem there. Then I found an adjustment screw on the load size selector / pressure switch (all one piece). I moved it one turn clockwise, then ran a test cycle. I got lucky on the first try... no more overflow, the water comes up just above the top holes in the tub. I hope this will help others.

Overflowed on Large load size

i think the water level sensor tube got filled when you had it on it's side, then after the first spin and drain cycle, the tube was again cleared out and ready for real action.
