Most fridges stop dispensing water when you open the door. Find the door switch and make sure fridge interior light goes on/off when you manually press door switch. This would show you that the door switch was faulty.

If the water connection to the appliance is one of those watts flood-safe water lines, it may have stuck shut. I've seen this happen when the house water pressure is too high.

Does it still make ice?

If so, then the water connection is good, and either the switch in the water dispenser has failed or the water shutoff valve for the water dispenser has gone bad.

Some models have a problem with the water line getting frozen, such that simply leaving the light on in the water dispenser compartment overnight and/or manually defrosting the unit can get it working again.

I just changed the water filter on my whirlpool refridgerator and got the message off the door. Now neither the ice maker or water dispenser will work.

Possibly the filter is not in all the way or maybe it has a clear sticker/seal over the middle hole. Most filters need pushed in slightly while turning about a 1/4 to 1/2 turn. If it worked before the filter change it has to be in that area.

Change Water filter

This may not be the problem now but by the sound of the malfunctioning water system, it could be in the future. The start device on some models of refridgerator for maytag and whirlpool have been recalled. If your appliance was manufactured in the last 5-10 years you may be having an issue with this component. Mine recently caught on fire at this device that is located near the compressor. If you would like to be a part of the petition for a recall on this appliance contact me at [email protected]

Refrigerator dispenses ice, but does not dispense water?

Unfortunately, the housing that the water filter fits into is also the housing for the solenoid controlled water valve, and that is the most likely failure item.

The indoor water of my Whirlpool side by side refridgerator stopped dispensing water. The ice still works. I changed the filter but still no water

More than likly the solinoid is damaged, turn off the water and power and remove it, once removed you can turn the power back on while you go and find a new one. leave the water off until the new one is installed and turn the power off while you fit the new one. Turn on water, check for leaks, turn on power check for leaks again.

Before you pay for a new solinoid ask the parts guy to test your old part. If this is not the problem is has to be a problem with the electric switch attached to the water dispencer handle.

The solinoid is a double one side controls the ice the other cold water to the door, mark the two wire terminals so you can put them back. ( check you didnt loosen one of the wires when changing the filter - stranger things have happened ) solinoid is located at the end of the water line from the wall, just behind the cardboard at the bottom of the fridge, it should have two water lines and two power terminals attached.

Water dispenser stopped working after changing filter

There is a built in system of valves on the filter connections that enable changing filters without turning off the water. IF the filters are not fully connected the valves wont open and there wont be any water flow. .
