Ricoh CL3500N long strips of light printing on the left of the page this past week. (Black only)Today I replaced black toner. No improvement. A few weeks ago I replaced photoconductive unit. That cured the prob. but I thought the photoconductive unit was to last longer than a few hundred pages.

Running cardstock lightly misted with water or dilute cleaning solution through several times can help. Use either the feed button or print using a program that allows you to print blank pages.

SOURCE: Smearned Printing on Ricoh Aficio AP3800C Laser Printer

Hi there the smudges are most likely down to the black PCU (Drum Unit) and following are the reasons for the two fault caode you have given me.

SC 261 LD HP sensor
not switched
off (for K only)
After the laser beam pitch was
changed, it takes more than
five seconds for the HP sensor
to switch off.
• Defective motor
• Defective sensor
• Mechanical problem
when switching the
actuator
• Brown fuse (FU81) on
the Power supply unit
1. Turn the main switch off and on.
2. Check the sensor actuator position of
the LD positioning motor.
3. Replace the LD positioning motor.
4. Replace the LD home position
sensor.
5. Check and/or replace the PSU.

SC 380 Black
development
motor error
SC 381 Color
development
motor error
When the motor speed is
within the target level, the
motor sends a lock signal
(High to Low at CN214-5) to
the BCU.
SC380 is detected under the
following conditions:
• The Lock signal stays High
2 seconds after the motor
turns on.
• The Lock signal stays Low 2
seconds after the motor
turns off.
• The Lock signal stays High
for more than 2 seconds
while the motor is on.
• Defective motor
• Defective BCU
1. Turn the main switch off and on.
2. Replace the motor.
3. Replace the BCU.

Hope this is any help

Thanks J

SOURCE: how to clean lens on our ricoh CL3500N Laser printer

Toner spills can be cleaned with a cotton pad and alcohol. If excess toner appears do the following:
You should replace the PCU if prints show any of the following symptoms.

  • Colors are missing, faint, or partially blurred.
  • Toner smears appear.
  • White or color rivers appear.
  • White or colored streaks appear
    1. Important: Switch off the device and disconnect it at the mains.
    2. Open the right side cover.
    3. Pull the green levers as shown to release the inner cover.
    4. Lift the inner cover upwards.
    5. Squeeze the green lever on the black PCU.
    6. Pull the unit carefully out of the device and dispose of it in accordance with your local environmental policy.
    7. Place the new PCU on a flat surface.
    8. Peel off the tape from around the new PCU.
    9. Remove the top cover from the PCU. DO NOT remove the bottom cover at this stage.
    10. Rest the new PCU in the device as shown.
    1. Push the PCU into the device while holding the bottom cover. You will hear a click when the PCU has locked into place.
    2. Lower the inner cover.
    3. Push the two green levers as shown to secure the cover.
    4. Close the side cover.
    5. Connect the device at the mains, switch it on and wait for the self-test operation to finish.

SOURCE: Ricoh Aficio CL3500N is now

you can try printing a page in black only, then one page each in the 3 other SINGLE colors: Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow. this will eliminate/ confirm one of these causing problem.

the replacement of Transfer Belt Cleaner or Cleaner Assembly is another to try after the above separate-color thing. see if there's a status page of life remaining on replaceable items, including the Transfer belt assy.

i'll assume you didn't scan the job- - this isn't a multifunction scanner/printer type machine?

ok, next in line is to check the Fuser unit, the part on the upper left side/top of printer. if the same streaks appear on the Main fuser rollers, these fuser units cost about 350 bucks. there is also a Fuser Kit, which costs much less, but its job is to add Fuser Oil to the fuser unit and keep paper and ink from sticking.
a guy could suffer sticker shock from the costs of running one of these, considering you could drop a grand buying all 4 drum units, a fuser unit, and a transfer belt assy. . . .

Depending on the age of the model, it could be a couple of things. ***Never touch the drum or expose it to bright light*** The drum unit is bad. It's the shiny brightly-colored large roller in the center of the machine. On most recent smaller machines like this on it's integrated into the toner cartridge. Check it out. If it has toner build up on the ends, it's bad. or The corona wires need cleaning. Some machines have a small slide that moves from one side of the printer to the other which cleans the hidden corona wires. It's usually brightly colored. The corona wires are also integrated into the toner cartridge in many smaller machines

I have a Ricoh Aficio CL3500N When I print a vertical page there are thin black lines going down the left side of the page. What causes it?? And what can I do??

Hi, thin black lines are most likely (but not definitely) caused by something in the black PCU (photoconductor unit), either the drum or the charger. Replacing the black PCU will likely get rid of your lines. The Ricoh code for a black PCU if you don't already have one is 402448.

Faded streaks for only blak color on Ricoh 3500N laser printer

Your toner cartridge is probably getting low. Toner is actually a powder, and it can get settled during shipments, bringing it home, etc etc. Take out the black toner and give it a gentle side-to-side shake a few times and pop it back in.
That should help.

Ricoh cl3500N printing with blank streaks in middle of page and faded quality black printing and black ink blotches on sides

The voids and blotches can be a bad black pcu, the voids san also be toner on the glass slat obove the pcu,s there are 4 slats one for each color, on the pcu itself on the upper side is a narrow long opening, the glass slat is above this opening when the pcu is in the printer. It will take a flashlight to see any toner on the glass.

Thought I would ask you, since u have answered Ricoh CL3500N

According to the maintenance manual, broken lines are caused by the "dithering" setting. Also there is an in depth color calibration process you can execute. Have you checked the PCU unit?

Here is the maintenance manual:
http://www.ricoh-usa.com/downloads/downloads.asp?tsn=Ricoh-USA&path=http://support.ricoh.com/bb_v1oi/html/oi/rc2/model/cl3500/cl3500en.htm

You may have to copy and paste the link into your browser.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
