I have the HP C3180 printer and I want to scan in PDF format, not Jpeg. How can I make it change over to PDF

To scan a photo into pdf file, it entirely depends upon the printer software if it has an option to scan into pdf then its fine if it hasn't, then you first need to scan the photo into jpeg and google to search for a jpeg to pdf software and convert it into a pdf file.

Hope this helps you.

I want to scan to my documents and the scan only scans to photo essentials. What do I do?

Hi,

How are you scanning it ? From HP Solutions Center or HP Director ?

Try this step.

Open HP Director or HP Solution Center.

Under Settings you will find Pictures/Document Scan
Below you will find option like File Type : Choose JPEG or PDF

Save it.

IF this does not work, the best option for you is to uninstall HP Photosmart Essentials from Add/Remove programs ( or Control panel - Programs and Features )

But however, by default the pictures/documents are still saved in MY Documents - My Scans folder even if the Photosmart essential pop-up after you scan

Regards,
Ron

How do I change the default file format from Jpeg to PDF on a xerox M24??

The following information provides an Overview of the Printer's available Scan Settings. 1. To enter the Scan mode, from the Printer's Main (Copy) Screen press the Menu button.
2. On the two-button selection screen, press the right-hand Scan/E-mail button. Note: If you press the lefthand "Copy" button by mistake you will be returned to the Main (Copy) Screen. You will then have to press the Menu button again to return to the two-button selection screen.
3. The Scan screen consists of three Tabs, with each Tab displaying a number of feature settings. From left to right, the three Tabs are labeled: Basic Scanning, Scan Options, and Image Quality/File Format.
4. When the Basic Scanning Tab is selected, three columns of settings are displayed. The first (left-hand) column of settings contains four "Output Color" selections, including: Auto, Full Color, Grayscale (256G), and Black. The second (center) column of settings displays four scan resolutions. The available selections include: 200 dpi, 300 dpi, 400 dpi, and 600 dpi. The third (right-hand) column of settings displays "2 Sided Original" selections including: 1 Sided, 2 Sided (H to H), 2 Sided (H to T), and More.... If you press More..., a screen displays with two setting selection buttons on the left, enabling you to select either 1 Sided or 2 Sided. If you choose 1 Sided, you can select an original orientation of Head to Top, or Head to Left. If you choose 2 Sided, two additional orientation buttons (Head to Head, and Head to Toe) become available for your selection. Note: To support "2 Sided" (Duplex) Scanning you will need to use the Printer's Duplex Automatic Document Feeder. When changing or viewing More... settings, press the Save button to save setting changes, or the Cancel button to exit the current screen without saving changes.
5. After an Output Color is selected from the first column of the Basic Scanning Tab, and the Image Quality/File Format Tab is pressed, a screen is displayed allowing you to choose and configure the settings for Original Type (Text & Photo, Text, Photo), Image Compression (High, Normal, Low), Contrast, File Format, and Auto Exposure.
- Press the Original Type button to select the most effective scanning for your original image type. Options are Text & Photo, Text, and Photo. - Press the File Format button to select your scanned file format. Options are TIFF/JPEG, JPEG, DocuWorks, and PDF. - Press the Lighter/Darker/Contrast button to adjust scanned image density (lightness and darkness) and contrast. Use the supplied arrows to make the desired setting adjustments. - Press the Image Compression button to set the degree of data compression, used especially with JPEG scans. Options are High, Normal (default), and Low. - Press the Auto Exposure button to enable or disable this scanning feature with the ON or OFF buttons. When changing or viewing settings, press the Save button to save setting changes, or the Cancel button to exit the current screen without saving changes.

New all in one printer/scanner. when I scan I get:- Adobe reader could not open 'scan_Doc0001.pdf'

Might need a bit more information about this: But I'm presuming you scan your document and save it as a pdf document using the built in HP software?
Couple of things to try:
1 - have you got the latest version of Adobe Reader? It may be that you are using an older version - the pdf document specification has been updated over the years and it may be that you're saving the pdf using a newer version of the pdf format than adobe reader is able to read.
2 - Adobe reader isn't the only pdf viewer, there are numerous other pdf document viewers (some free some not) You could try another pdf viewer, like Foxit Reader (free to use) and see if that can open it?
3 - When you save the scan, make sure that in the Save Dialog box it is really saving it as pdf. Common mistake is that people often just save a file with .pdf and expect the program to know that you want to save as pdf. When you scan there are several other file formats that you can use (Tiff, Jpeg etc) Is is possible you're saving the file as Tiff or Jpeg but with a .pdf file extension? If you're not sure, re-scan the document and resave it, but don't use a file extension, let the scanning program do that, see what it saves it as?
4 - check where you're saving the pdf on your computer? Is the place you're trying to open it from, the same as the place you've saved it?

I HAVE A LEXMARK X9350 AND WHEN I SCAN ITEMS, THE FILE SIZE IS HUGE. EG 1 PAGE = 3MB. HOW CAN I REDUCE THE SIZE OF THE FILE

See the manual for X9350 on page 119.

The software application must be used for saving files to a specific format that you can select from the menu on the computer.

Standard scans are often saved as bitmap with the extension .bmp .
Select another file format like jpeg with the extension .jpg or .jpeg, when you want to view the scans in photoview afterwards.

Another option is to save the file in a format that can be read with Adobe Reader, selecting .pdf format.

A last option is to reduce your file size, changing the scan settings:
( I wouldn't advise; this can result in unclear copies ):
Advanced scan settings can be changed on the computer as well:
See reducing e.g. "scan resolution" and "color depth" on page 120.
