Hello,
I connected a ONKYO Tx-SR605 Receiver to a Mitsubishi 73” DLP TV. My connections were as follows.
My DirecTV HD box and a Sony Blu-Ray were connected to the ONKYO receiver’s HDMI 1 & 2 inputs. The ONKYO receiver HDMI output was then connected to the Mitsubishi TV HDMI input #1. I did have the ONKYO receiver HDMI output to the TV turned on.
I also have an Xbox connected by way of the Mitsubishi TV HDMI #2 input, and a Optical Digital cable connected for the Xbox to the ONKYO receiver Optical input #1. This connection was necessary because the ONKYO receiver only has two HDMI inputs.
This connection worked for about 40 days. Any time we wanted to watch TV, we just needed to be on the TV’s input #1, then switch to the TV’s input #2 when we wanted to play the Xbox. And like I said, this worked great for 40 days.
One day when we had the TV’s set to input #2 because we were playing the Xbox. Then we wanted to watch a movie so we tries to switch back to the TV’s input #1 to get the signal from the ONKYO receiver the was connected to the TV’s HDMI input #1.
What had happened id the TV for some reason lost the setup for the ONKYO receiver. It was like it was never their. I tried to do any thing the book had on setting up the connection but The only way I got it to work was to hit the reset button in the front of the TV. After I got it to work again and then I would turn the TV and then back on, or if I were to change the TV’s HDMI input #2 to play the Xbox, and then tried to switch back to the TV’s HDMI #1 it would be lost again.
Also when I was trouble shooting this issue, I was able to get the TV working with the ONKYO receiver by unplugging the HDMI cable, and then plugging it back into a different HDMI input on the TV. But I would still have the same trouble and the connection would be lost.
I got the TV to work, but what I had to do is do a factory reset on the TV to connect everything directly to the TV’s HDMI inputs, and then connect the ONKYO receiver by way of a Coax cable to the Digit input of the ONKYO receiver.
How can I get it to work again using the ONKYO receiver as the hub instead of the TV? Connected the way I have it now, I’m not taking advantage of the ONKYO receiver’s HDMI inputs as well as it’s 7.1 capabilities.
I think I may have either turned something on or off in either the TV or the receiver, and it is creating the problem. Besides video and sound, it seems they are creating systems so HDMI connected components can control each other by way of the HDMI connection.
Could something like this be causing the problem? I did try different HDMI cables.
Thanks,
Robert…

I have the same issue with my 73". Rather then going over all of my connections and equipment I'll just say htat I feel your frustration. I have been on the phone with Mitsubishi directly and it appears as though they have a free software upgrade that should address this problem. If you call 1-800-332-2119 and press 4 in the menu you will get someone to help you. Be patient. They will make you go through all of the fixes that you have already tried. They will mail you a flash drive that goes right into the front USB port of your TV. I hope this is of help. Good luck.

I have 73" Mistubishi DLP connected to my HDPC moncaso computer with 7" front color dispaly for over 2 years. Few days ago i lost picture, so replace motherboard and video card (it was few years old and needed upgrade anyway). After upgrade i was never able to get picture back. I get picture with 30" special HDMI cord on my bedroom tv, the front 7" display work fine, but none of 3 HDMI ports on Mitsubishi TV work. I try for hours diffrent video cards(4)/ports/wires/adapters, i did many times inputs reset, cold digital handshake resets. Computer recognized connection with tv, every time i connect DVi or HDMI it takes display from front panel in single monitor mode, but no display only black screen. It seems like TV is in some kinda unknown refresh rate or resolution, but i don't know how to reset it to native 1080. I'm running out of ideas, please help... anyone ??? anyone ?? Bueller ???
Have a similar problem with a wd62525 no one could help not samsung, panasonic, and mitsubishi was the worst, my equipment is all connected to a denon and they helped the most, I did a hard reset and reset everything back to factory default, then uplugged everything, and reconnected all my devices for them to still not work. I am currently waiting on mitsu. to send me firmware?
I have an Onkyo tx-sr805 and have exactly the same problem. I believe it is a repeater problem with the onkyo. If I connect my Directv HDMI cable to the Mitsubishi 73" I never have a problem, same with my Blu-ray player. It's a failure with the Onkyo Receivers and I am on their case to resolve the problem or replace my unit or return my money so I can buy a Denon or something that works!
Robert,
I Have figured out why the Mitsubishi TV and the Onkyo receiver do not work. After hours of trying many things and talking to the salesperson at a PC Richards I have determined that the receiver is not compatable with this TV. The Mitsubishi TV needs HDMI 1.3A and the Onkyo only supports 1.3. This is a difference that no one has noticed in the many places I have looked for answers but I know know it to be the cause.
You will need a receiver that handles 1.3a, which would be the Onkyo SR805 model.

I have a WD-73833 and and ONYO SR605. Exactly the same problem. Yours went to 40 days. Mine was 2 days. I have to keep on swapping from one HDMI to another because resetting takes for ever. I read somewhere that there is a firmware update for the diamond that would solve this problem but haven't investigated. Is it the Onkyo or the WD that causes the problem?
My long winded solution: Remove the HDMI cable form the TV. Go to the input menu and set that HDMI to off. Reconnect the cable and the TV recognises the onkyo until you switch it off again, then you follow the cycle. Rediculous.
I have a windows PC attached through a Sony receiver which is in turn attached through the HDMI port to the TV. IT HAS BEEN WORKING WELL FOR YEARS. Just recently, the TV won't recognize the HDMI port when the TV is restarted. We found that by turning off the surge protector for a few minutes and turning the TV back on, then going through the TV menu to the input settings, we are able to re-establish the functioning of the HDMI port. The TV has 3 HDMI ports. When I switch the HDMI cable from HDMI port 1 to port 2, port 2 wont work but port 1 shows a connection (but switching the cable to port 1 then makes port 2 show up but port 1 stops working again. The same thing happens when I try the HDMI 3 port). I have tried attaching the HDMI cable from the PC directly to the TV but it still acts the same. Can you help me?
