The handle for my Eureka 5893 AVZ was getting very hot. Finally, the wires around the switch melted and the vacuum will not work. What is wrong? Is the switch bad? Nothing else appears to be wrong.

Had exactly the same problem with my upright Eureka Model 5893 bagless. It almost melted the handle! Ordered a switch after talking to several repair men. Talked to Eureka, too, and they were absolutely no help. Cheap wiring and switch made in China. Good luck trying to find a switch. vacuum-depot.com has switches, so you might try there.

Usually if a connection gets hot enough to start melting it is usually a loose connection or high current. more than likely the switch is bad if you replace it with the same type of switch and it gets hot check the motor. make sure it is clean and isn't jammed

Eureka vacuum model#2961 Won't start???

Well documented issue, overheating, melted cheap wiring, cheap burned out switches made in China, a Dyson, it is not!

Had exactly the same problem with my upright Eureka Model 5893 bagless. Eventually, the handle would get hot, and finally it just quit. When handle was disassembled, the wires were melted and it was toast. Ordered a switch after talking to several repair men. Talked to Eureka, too, and they were absolutely no help. Cheap wiring and switch made in China. Good luck trying to find a switch. vacuum-depot.com has switches, so you might try there, but make sure you get the 3-prong switch (same switch used on Eureka's Genesis). It is Part #27871.

And lots more

The handle was getting hot and we opened the handle and the wires were melted around the switch. I need a part number for it. All I have seen are 2 wire and this is a 3 wire. Thank you.

Eureka Boss Smart Vac 4870 evidentally overheated. Allowed unit to cool and observed a spark/smoke at outlet when it was replugged into the power outlet. Unit will not power up now. Circuit breakers in...

The wires leading to the switch inside my Eureka 4870 are fried...black and melted. Don't know why that happened, but it may be what is happening to the others listed on this site as well.

Broken on/off switch

I have the same vacuum and the on/off switch wasn't working any longer so I took the cover off to find out that the wiring got so hot that it melted through the wire coating and plastic frame.
