I am unable to get a MS-6714, ver:1 mobo to power-up. I reseated every plug and module on the board, and still no power. What else can we try? All periperals are disconnected. The power supply is tested for effieciency. Everything is good on the board, but the thing will not power-up.

I tried the solution you posted and I heard no beeps. Does that mean that the board is "shot"?

Dj,
Remove all memory modules.
Locate the two "power" pins and short them out using a knife, paperclip or some other metal "tool".
Do you get any beeps?

I know you posted that the PS i ok ...

Hi i have ms 6714 mother board how to know its 040 or 020

1) The Micro Star International MS-6714-020 motherboard uses an Intel 845GV motherboard chipset.

Underneath the Heatsink on the Northbridge chip is the part number Intel 82845GV.
On the Southbridge chip the part number is Intel 82801DB. (ICH4)

2) The MSI MS-6714-040 motherboard use an Intel 845GE motherboard chipset.

Underneath the aluminum ribbed Heatsink on the Northbridge chipset is the part number Intel 82845GE.
On the Southbridge chip the part number is Intel 82801DB. (ICH4)

List of Intel Chipsets, and specifically the one's for the Pentium 4's,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_intel_chipsets#Pentium_4_chipsets

How to know the difference without knowing what part number is on the Northbridge chip?
Easy.

The Intel 845GE supports Integrated Graphics, and AGP (AGP 4X)

There is an AGP expansion slot on the motherboard for using an AGP graphics card.

The Intel 845GV supports Integrated Graphics only.

There is No AGP expansion slot.
Just the three white PCI expansion slots.

I need a driver for video controller vga compatible for ms 6714 for free but i cant find any site that is free to download

this is older motherboard but still workable, as you did not specify, therefore drivers for windows are provided here:

http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=510

please elect apriopriate for youre system, download and install first chipset files (inf for pentium!), then download and install all remining required drivers.

Please leave note how did you go.

Will not power up. Installed new power supply, new memory, and disconnected all other devices. Checked Power switch and it is good.

Make sure you got this thing properly seated and the right connection wire is plugged into it.  Take the thing out and reseat it.

Usb problen

Check that the 1394 usb header is not plugged into a USB 2.0 PORT and these are the cables inside and should be marked on the mobo.Did you install this board? Is it factory or replacement?

RAM Capacity of Motherboard MS 6166

unfortunately there are no sites with info on this board, but similair ones can take upto 512MB of ram, but you would be wise trying a matching 128MB stick in the other slot. You will have to visit a computer fair to get hold of sdram or try ebay.

Unable to Power Motherboard

Try to jump start it with a screwdriver, just touch the screwdriver to the place where the power connection (from the front) cable plugs in. If this works, you need to plug the power into there, if not, you may not be hitting the right spot, or the psu/mobo is bad.
