My vx8300 is stuck in car kit
I just ran into this problem myself (besides that fucked up white main screen i have). So after reading all these other solutions i played with the thing and found that its one of the right-most pins in the charging port. Probabily a pin touching the metal housing or another pin completes the same electrical circuit used to determine if a car kit is hooked in. I figured this one by shoving a knife through the opening to clear out any debris and every-swipe made the "car kit" banner dissappear. so check for pins touching something it shouldn't. ( i said F-it and ripped that pin out!)
Hope this helps more
Go with Stonerhippie's solution! I tried the tin foil thing, the resetting, the alcohol, didn't work. Finally I looked inside the charging port and saw that a couple of the rightmost pins were crushed down a little, so I took a pair of tweezers and carefully pushed them around a little, away from the side of the port, and the Car Kit thing disappeared immediately. Thanks!
OK here is an easy fix for that... you either need 99-100% rubbing alcohol or an item called tech spray which is usually sold at most hardware stores. get an old toothbrush and get the alcohol on the toothbrush and use that to clean the charging port. If that doesnt help then take the charger and plug it in the phone and wiggle it around ever so lightly. That should take care of it.
I sprayed industrial electrical circuit cleaner into the charging port (nothing to loose) followed by compressed air form my air compressor and it fixed the problem. Verizon could do the same thing for their customers. But the $$$$ get in the way.
None of the proposed fixes worked, so I took two aspirin and watched "Cedar Rapids" twice; first time laughed, second time cried. Sweet little movie.
Next day I put phone, with charging port ******* directly upward, in sun for 4 hours to bake. Then I worshipped sun when its drying effects got rid of dreaded Car Kit.
I tried stonerhippe's solution of playing with the right most pins with a paper clip. Car Kit flickered, but kept coming back. Then I read nos7116's solution. I didn't have rubbing alcohol, but I had Purell. I shoved a whole mess of Purell into the charger end (good idea to pull the other end out of the wall first). Then I shoved that Purell dripping end into the phone charging port and wiggled away. Work in 2 secs!!
Well mine obviously was either the pins touching, or corrosion as they both can essentially function the same way as a short... but the point of my fix was really to tell people where exactly the problem is located, so they can find out why it's messed up.
and unless they need that pin, as for using a car kit, they should just get rid of it- cuz its just going to cause problems since those pins are so tiny, the slightest movement can cause this.
But other than my fix, the best advice I can give to anybody is find out for yourself... play around, and figure it out through trial and error, than choose the preferred course of action from there based on your observations.

After mine got wet in a water balloon massacre, I cleaned the charger area with tissue with rubbing alcohol on it and worked for my 8300.
Verizon used to fix this problem before they found it was more profitable to make everyone buy new phones.
The same daughter slobbering problem happenned with me and I took my phone into verizon and they fixed it(couple years ago)-The problem is in the spot where you attach the charger-there is corrosion from the moisture and that corrosion is connecting the little wires that go into the charger-which is what the car kit accessories would do....
You need to remove the corrosion from in between the wires-at the verizon store-the tech guy told me he used rubbing alcohol and a q-tip to clean that area..
Spray compressed air in the charger area! it worked on mine
Your phone probably got damaged where you stick the charger, it may have got wet.
My daughter slobered on my phone in that spot and kick it into car kit mode. Verizon said that it was ruined and had to replace it

Most likely exposed to water...even at low levels. I put mine in a bowl of dry rice. Worked great to dry it out. Worked in one day.
SOURCE: Lg vx8300 verizon says car kit display have no
Car kit mode means one of two things, first it could have a piece of lint or paper stuck in the charge port making it think there is a car kit plugged in, or second it could be that some moisture got into the port and its giving a indication that something is plugged in. and thats why you're not getting any sound. There is no specific setting to turn on or off 'car kit' mode you can use a paper clip or something and mess with the port a little bit to see if 'car kit' goes away or replace phone
