My dvd burner doesn't burn dvds

Hi, My dvd burner is burning cds normaly but i am having a problem with burning the dvds. It says that it has a problem writting to a disk. Also it says that I should clean the disk remove all fingerprints atc... I tried several new blank discs and I get the same problem. Anything that would lead to solve this problem will be appreciated. Thank you very much Ondra P.s. I am using "sonic record now" version 6.5.3 I've tried older version of nero before and I had similar problem lg dvd rw

Try NTI burning software - Ihave had no problems with theirs.

Is your DVD drive a Combo DVD ROM and CD Read/writer? If so it cannot burn DVD only reads DVDs and read and burn CDs.
If the program cannot find a DVD burner then either the burning software cannot support that model DVD burner ot the DVD burner is faulty.
To test the DVD burner, remove it and install it into another computer to test the burner to see if is faulty.

It is a DVD ROM drive which stands for DVD Read Only Memory. In other words, this drive is meant to only PLAY DVDs and CDs but NOT save data to them.

To burn CDs you need a CD burner. Burners are of 3 types:

CD writer only burns and reads CDs.

Combo drive reads CDs and DVDs but only burns CDs.

Super drive burns and reads from CDs and DVDs.

As you go higher in functionality, the price also increases. Check your needs before you plan to buy one. Also compare prices of all the drives. Note: burn-able media costs are separate.

Windows XP doesn't support burning DVDs, only CDs. You need to install an application that will burn DVDs. There are several;

No it only has a CD read write and a DVD Rom player READ ONLY.

You need to check that with blank DVD's you are using compatible with your drive.Because the DVD's may work with your extranal drive but not with your builting drive. If this doen't slove the problem I would recommend using a different burning software other than "sonic record now" and "vista o/s Built-in dvd burner".

Try using nero to burn, be sure to select cd as the type of media... e.g Start > all programs >> nero >> data >> nero express .. Then
select cd, data cd,, drag some pics across and burn it.. If that dont work.. i hope u got warrenty... or if you wish to keep trying let me know

not necessrilly some dvd rom drives play only dvds an cds but don't burn them. it may burn cds but there is a 90% chance your drive can't burn dvd's
