Fill tank with water and put steam setting to 0.Set temp pial to hottest setting. Let the iron heat up till the light in the hand goes out. Switch off power and hold iron over sink. Push down and hold descale button until all the steam and water has gone from iron. Wipe plate and heat up iron again with no water in it.

This was great, I only wish I'd found this out before my iron ruined my best sheets by depositing bright orange calcium on them! - any suggestions for removing this stain would be gratefully received.

How to use the calc-clean button

Calc-Clean function
The Calc-Clean function removes scale and impurities.

To do so, set the steam control to position '0', set the temperature dial to 'MAX', and fill water tank up to the 'MAX' level. Then heat up the iron until the pilot light on the handgrip goes out.

Remove the mains plug from the wall socket and hold the iron horizontally over the sink. Then press and hold down the 'CALC CLEAN' button.

Move the iron forwards and backwards while boiling water/steam squirt from the holes in the soleplate to wash away impurities/scales.

When the water tank is empty, heat up the iron to dry it.

Finally move the iron to and fro on a piece of cloth to dry the soleplate. Repeat the process if necessary

i had the same problem and the Philips hekp site was no use. I turned my iron off until it was completely cooled down then switched it back on again, with the steam number turned to 5 and the heat on max. as soon as the ready light went off, i put my iron in the horizontal position and shook it back and forth (quite vigorously) and it seemed to have dont the trick!
