Lens Error - Cool Pix L6 - Camera unuseable

The lens is stuck open, and reads 'lens error' yet nothing seems to help it. It had been working fine, I went to take a photo and it stuck and came up wit the 'lens error' message. It seems to be permanently broken and it's only 4 months old. Help?! Coolpix L6. Suddenly the lens is stuck open. Makes a noise, but won't close. Unuseable. [email protected]

my camera does the same thing! i got it 3 months ago,

and out of no where it stopped working. i turn it on

and it makes these funny noises and turns off,

but the lens is stuck half way out. what do i do?!

my camera is 4 month old as well and has the same problem...lens cover error. y makes a sound but it does nothing. i have no idea why and what happen.

Hi there its happens when the lens not ready for work. Some how its not able to stable his focus method. That's why its stuck. There is a chances of lens guide pin disturbed or damaged & thats why continues failure. Its mean he inform you there is a system error. So please visit the service center for repair that. Its a very common & repairable problem. Thanks.

I had what sounds like the same problem. The camera was dropped and the shutter was stuck open. Just kept showing error message.
As I felt I had nothing to lose I began tapping it on a soft book and the shutter started to appear. I then shut it just using the end of my finger. When I then turned the camera on again it opened and shut when turned off. It has worked fine ever since.
Seems a rather poor design.

Lcd reads system error

Apparently often related to a lens motor malfunction. My old 4300 just gave this error for the first time today. The lens extended but made a whirring noise before the message popped up. Nothing I tried would fix it - but after I drove home it worked fine again.

I had a similar problem over a year ago after the camera fell out of my backpack (it was in its own bag but not well padded). When I used it the lens stuck and refused to retract, but I don't recall a "System Error" message. After a few tries, the lens went in and it's been fine since, until today.

Make sure there's nothing (dust, dirt) stuck in the lens barrels. Otherwise, just keep turning it on and off and hope it works.

Remove the battery, wait a couple of minutes, replace battery. (assuming the battery is fully charged. Check there is nothing jammed in the mech. if it still stays stuck.

The lens is probably stuck with a piece of dirt or something jamming it. You could gently try and pull on the lens with a slight turn in each direction to see if you can dislodge the particle.

Some individuals on the internet have felt comfortable enough to try and disassemble the camera to reveal the parts of the lens drive mechanism, clean it and put it back together and this sometimes will help (but that is beyond this response) because there are enough locations on the net that describe this.

Since it's 4 months old, you may want to return it for a replacement.

Other alternatives are:

Carefully use some compressed air around the lens mechanism.
Take the camera back and get a replacement, or
Talk to Nikon and get it serviced.

Dont know if this will help anyone. I had a lens error for ages. In my long lasting devotion to google serk I found that many equall contenders found that a strike with a soft book in different directiions solved the problem. I ended up beating the camera from all angles with the palm of my hand. But hey! it worked. 4 months later im looking for the cure to system error 2. If you can help wi that one.
