Use your Norton Ghost boot disk to boot your computer.
Once it's booted it will ask you what you want to do.
Choose to Restore your harddrive and point to where the image is residing on your backup.

It's all pretty self explanatory. It may take several hours, so be patient.

Hi, How do I recover my Office 2003 Auto Correct from Norton Ghost? I back up my PC image and formated my hardrive. Now I want to reover just my autocoreect file and apply it to my new Windows...

Hi,
This will only work if the drive with your new Windows installation is larger than the drive with your ghost image.
Assuming that the above is true, do the following:
Using disk management, create a partition on your hard drive which is large enough to accept your entire ghost backup. Restore your ghost image to this partition and then select any files or folders you may need. Once you have the necessary files you can delete the partition again if need be and use it for other storage purposes.
Let me know if you need any further assistance regarding the above.
Best wishes,
Graemevm

Don't know how to restore files from backup done with North Ghost

Using Norton Ghost 9.0 is very good program to backup your System & Documents.
You said the PC is dead then you want to restore back your System to a new PC.
All you have to do is that Norton Ghost 9.0 CD is Bootable.
Of course also your external hard drive are plug in it too.
Manually you're going to open that Sv2i file to restore back again your old system but there are some programs that are not going to use. Like for example: System Drivers (Motherboard Driver, LAN, SOUND, etc.) but at least you have the Documents and the rest of the programs run again.
I try it myself this kind of situation, I'm using Windows 2000 with Norton Ghost 9.0 version, and it's 100% works. Good luck!
Hope i might give you some tip & idea.
Tell me more about if you got a problem.
Please rate me.
Thank you.

Reformatted computer, found files with GHS & GHO,how to recover?

Hi 'jen2x':

I’m Melinda and I represent Symantec’s PR Department.

Norton Ghost has the following key features:

  • Full system backup (disk image)—Backs up everything on a hard drive or partition.
  • File and folder backup—Backs up only the specific files and folders you choose rather than saving an entire drive.
  • FTP backup—Copies recovery points to a FTP site for easier offsite backup management. NEW
  • Offsite backup—backs up your files to NAS (Network-Attached Storage) devices. NEW
  • Symantec ThreatCon integration—triggers incremental backups whenever ThreatCon reaches a specified threat level. Great for computers without virus protection. NEW
  • Incremental and differential backup—Backs up only files that have changed.
  • EXCLUSIVE! Google Desktop™ integration—Makes data recovery even faster with searchable backup indexes.
  • LightsOut Restore—Restores your system with an on-disk software recovery environment—no bootable CD required.
  • EXCLUSIVE! Remote management—Controls other Norton Ghost installations (12.0 or higher) on your local area network.
  • Advanced compression and encryption—Minimizes storage space and helps keep sensitive documents safe.

Norton ghost 14... I cant recover back up...

Ghost saved the drive information in an image file.  Whatever you named your backup you would see *.gho, *001.gho, *002.gho.  That is your whole hard drive in a spanned image file.  Ghost Explorer is what you need to open and view these images and you would be able to extract files as your would from a zip file.  There are no restore points as you would think using Windows Restore.  Only the raw hard drive information as it appears on your dive now.  I'm  not sure if Ghost Explorer is provided with the home edition as I'm used to the enterprise for my work.

Need software

gho is the extension of backup file format saved by Norton Ghost, that is Norton backup program.
GHO file extension can only be opened with Norton Ghost, and restored on an hard drive, after extraction you can save data on optical support using any CD burner software.

You can download Norton Ghost below:

Removing norton ghost before reinstalling

If you tried removing Ghost yourself by deleting foulder or files then it will not appear in the add/remove list. Try reinstalling it and then using removal tool. Make sure you have correct one for version and your OS. My advice is stay away from Norton products, they severely slow down performance and hinder daily activities. There are free tools online that work much better.

Ibm thinkpad T40 Hard Drive change out

After fdisk and format you need to ensure that operative system is installed into yor hard drive. Using ghost you restore the image disk by booting from ghost image CD if you made a bootable image disk. Ensure Bios is set up to boot from CD.
If you used Norton Ghost ensure you captured the image of full bootable original hard disk drive for same computer. If it does not boot after restoring ghosted image, than the image it is probably not complete. If hard disk image is not good, easiest thing to do is using Windows install CD to installl again operative system, then you eventually restore ghost image.
