Frigidaire side by side freezer - LOUD noise...

Frigidaire side by side freezer is making a very loud noise that just started this morning. It stopped freezing ice cream about 3 months ago but was still able to freeze everything else and create ice cubes. I cleaned the bottom of the fridge (condeser coils?) already. If I turn the knob to make the freezer not as cold then the noise goes away for like 10 mins and comes back. Its is a very loud noise...definitely not just humming.

Thanks for the quick reply. When I have the freezer door opened, it still makes the noise. I will definitely check out your suggestions tonight when I get home. I have no idea what part is what...is there a diagram to these components?

It sounds like the evaporator fan is hitting ice that is built up on the evaporator coil. When it's making the noise, open the freezer door and see if it stops.
(Most models are wired so that the evaporator fan cuts off when the freezer door is open.)
Check the inside back, lower panel of the freezer for ice built up or frost on it. If there is, you have a defrost problem that is most likley a bad heater. It's located around the coil inside the freezer behind the panel you will be looking at. The defrost problem would explain the freezer not freezing ice cream.

Testimonial: "I turned off the freezer side and it defrost for a few hours. Then I turned it back on and its working fine for 2 days now. "

I found Ice built up on the back panel of the freezer. Can the heater unit be replaced and if so how is it accomplished.

Frigidaire Side by Side Refrigerator. How to stop the loud humming noise coming from it please?

Question edited for clarity.

It sounds like the compressor is struggling / overheating / failing. When was the last time your stripped the back out and removed all the fluff and debris? It overworks the compressor and gets red hot when the condenser coils get blocked. The struggling compressor causes the humming. Turn it off, keep the doors closed and vacuum it all out. Clean underneath and you might as well clean the floor and walls around it as the plan is to leave it disconnected for 1 to 2 hours to cool down and settle the refrigerant gas/liquid. Some other ideas below.

The evaporator fan motor circulates air over the coils to help keep things cool inside your fridge. If this motor starts to go bad, it will make a buzzing sound as it struggles to circulate air. You'll need to replace the evaporator fan motor to fix this problem.

Started making a loud buzzing noise. Have tried unplugging it and turning it off and on.

Good Morning Denise, thank you for your inquiry!
From the information you have provided your Frigidaire freezer is making a buzzing noise and it will not stop. You may need to perform a reset on your freezer and you can do that by disconnecting the power cord for at least ten minutes. If the buzzing continues I would be happy to research your freezer further, in order to do so I would need your model number. You can locate the serial tag (which lists your model number) on the inside wall. Once I have that information I would be happy to help you further. -Matt

The feezer side is making a loud noise and will not stop. it seems to still be cooling just fine on both sides. thier is no burning smell or anything. i tried dissconnecting the ice maker and that did...

From what you're describing it sounds like the freezer fan motor is causing the noise you hear. The freezer fan is the only moving part in the freezer section. I recommend replacing the freezer fan motor & fan blade together. If there is ice buildup on the back wall of the freezer then the sound is likely from the fan blade hitting the ice and you will need to defrost the unit.

My freezer stopped freezing and is making a loud buzzing noise with the red light on at the bottom. Cant sleep HELP

the loud buzzing is the freezer high temp alarm. dont know why its warm though.
make sure you don't store anything on top of or on the sides of the unit as the condenser of most freezers are buried in the walls of the unit and it will over heat the compressor. if unit is in a hot garage this will compound the problem.

Frigidaire Frig side by side making a loud buzzing noise

it sounds like the compressor, or something near it. it is generally the only moving part in a refrigerator other than the door, so would be my first guess. If it is constantly running, but staying cool in the freezer there may be a small leak somewhere or the compressor is losing power, and pumping slower.

Frigidaire refrigerator model FRT21LRGW5-compressor sound is loud

If it is the compressor making that sound,The compressor is bad.
A fan motor can as make this type of noise as well when going bad.
If it is the fan motor stopping, this will also shut the compressor down, due to the thermal overload protection.

Please rate this a fixya.
