My Hotpoint BWD129 washer/dryer has got noisier and noisier during the spin cycles. It is now so loud it is unbearable to be in the same room as it and it rattles anything off the worktop nearby. Any suggestions? The wash cycle and drying cycles are otherwise fine - its just the spin that is particularly noisy. It's 2.5 years old.

This is most likely the drum bearings failing.

Drum bearings normally last a long time (10 years or more isnt unusual), but quite often drum bearing failure is caused by a faulty drum shaft seal allowing a small amount of water through and in to the bearings. The bearings then start to rust and this accelertes how quickly they deteriorate.

Replacing a drum bearing requires well above average DIY skills, so unless you feel you can do it, can get hold of a tech manual, and can find a supplier for the bearings, it's time to get a quote from an engineer.

I have a Hotpont washer/dryer model BWD129 It started making a loud noise for a while when spinning now it won't spin at all. Please could you advise if it would be able to be fixed? Many thanks

I would say your basket drive is broke. Only when spinning, if it was this, it makes loud noises the whole time it spins, big thumps. This may be your problem. You would have to have someone look at it or call for an estimate. It would probably need replaced.

I have a similar Hotpoint model to this, that does something very similar now and again, usually when trying to set a delayed start.

The only way I have found to "fix" it is to turn the machine off for at least 5 minutes, and then try again.

Hope this helps.

GE Model WHDSR209D2WW makes unbearable loud metal Screeching noise

ppr78, couple of things you want to check. The bottom panel on these GE's are pretty flimsy. I have run into a couple where during agitation the bottom of the motor housing would rub against the bottom panel making a terrible noise. You need to remove the front panel by pusing on the clips on the left and right side just under the top. The front panel will pull out. During agitation, take your foot and push down on the bottom panel and see if the screech goes away. I have also found the suspension rod support sockets at the top dry out and make a screeching noise. You also want to check your belt and pully and see if the noise is from there. Check these things first...Catriver..post back.
