HDD FORMAT ERROR FOR SONY HANDYCAM DCR-SR47, when it is turned on it gives error and I am unable to retrieve my recordings I did for a wedding...please help

    I AM FROM BANGALORE, I VISITED A SONY SERVICE CENTRE IN KORAMANGALA, THEY QUOTED ME 8500/- FOR HDD CHANGE BUT I GOT IT CHANGED FOR 4500/- AT MATA ELECTRONICS, SP ROAD, BANGALORE. I HAD SUMMITED THE CAMCODER AT THEIR COLLECTION POINT AT DOMLUR AND GOT IT FIXED IN 2 DAYS. CONTACT MR VIJAY (SERVICE INCHARGE) 9035871324. THANX

    Yes it will.. If you hook your camera up to the computer and no files show up then your "work" is toast anyways..
    I had the HDD format error, but when I did the USB CONNECT my files were all there, except for when the error happened, that's when the camera shut off..

    Try to get your files, if you can't just do a format and consider it a loss..
    The solution above will reformat the drive and make it useful once again, instead of a camera stuck on HDD format error...

    It says it will delete data and I have footage on it. Any other ideas as I want to retrieve the footage on hdd

Somewhere in the menu there is a function 'clear' ('leegmaken' in dutch). I used it and the problem was solved!! Unfortunately I can't find it anymore. You should try it!

Recently purchased a camcorder DCR-SR68 and we took all our wedding video on it. It now says HDD format error and all my video is gone. I tried resetting didn't work, took out the battery, didn't work. Sony told me to format the drive but that also not function. couldn;t format that.

Sony dcr-sr47 handycam - hdd format error.
Does this camera also take a memory card? If it does, then that would mean the internal memory would be very small...much too small for a long video. If it doesn't, then it's possible you should have formatted the internal memory before an important event.
