HP c7180 printer is giving me the following message, "black cartridge missing or damaged" . I replaced the cartridge with a remanufactured cartridge and with an original cartridge as well. Regardless of the cartridge I use it will not recognize the Black HP 02 cartridge. All the colour cartridges are being recognized, even though I have a mix of remanufactured and original colour cartridges installed. What can I do to fix this issue?
Thanks
Open the printer and remove the ink. Clean around the ink carriage and the under the ink with alcohol and a cotton swab. Pay special attention to areas with copper contacts. Keep in mind too that some printers will not print, even with full ink, if the exact type of ink it expected you to have installed is not right. Double check that the ink is correct against the manual or written instructions inside the printer using the number not the shape or color of the cartridge. Not every cartridge that fits the printer necessarily works.

that on an
HP. It is more common on a Kodak or a Cannon because the ink jet is not part of
the cartridge. I’ve had a few HP with bad logic boards however and they don’t
detect things right, paper, ink, etc. But if that’s the problem you will just
have to replace it.
So let's focus on things we can fix. I would really you to re-check that the cartridge and
carriage are clean. If you feel they are then take your old cartridge and put it back in the printer; see if it changes from a no cartridge error to an empty cartridge error.
If it sees the old cartridge and not the new one then it is the ink. If it doesn't see either then it is the printer and if it isn't an ink issue. It may not be resolvable.
hi had same problem hp c7180 but yellow ink cartridge missing or damaged changed yellow 363 cartridge and got message ink cartidge not intended for use in the region printer is set for phoned hp to change region from using 02 ink for australia to 363 ink for europe and after hours arguing was told i had to pay hp £15 just to talk to someone who may or may not be able fix the problembecause the printer is out of warranty.
I have fixed the problem myself so if this is of use to anyone else this is what i done:-
on printer press * and # at same time it will ask for a code to be entered enter 124 this takes you into underware press arrow key > boot code menu will be on screen press ok screen now says set to mfg mode press ok then press cancel turn off printer at socket turn back on screen shall have lines like a mesh then change to vertical coloured lines now press the start button and screen will change to at top saying INK THRESHOLD EXEEDED under this it says DO NOT SHIP UNIT IN ITS CURRENT STATE now printer will work as it should do :-SCAN COPY PRINT all wirelessly you may have to press setup on the printer panel and scroll down to network press ok then scroll to wireless setup wizard and just enter your setings as it asks for. this will probably work on other printers from hp also there is other codes you can enter after pressing * and # at same time these codes are 123-support--124-underware--125-transmit---127-mfg---329-service---7664-will briing up a game of pong on the screen.
I have since sent an email to the ceo and president of hp strongly complaining about the lack of aftercare from hp but i am not holding out for any helpfull response from them.
Ihope this solution is of use to someone who like myself was thinking of ditching there printer but because of the attitude of hp does not want them to have the last say.THANKS PETE
Thank you 123PETEW: This also fixed an issue on HP7280 with a CIS cartridge that produced a message" missing or damaged".

The HP c7180 printer takes the HP 02 cartridges. I double checked that the cartridges I am using are the HP 02 cartridges, plus I dont think HP has any other cartridge models that look (in design) like the HP 02's. Is there somekind of hard reset or maybe an issue with the printer contacts?
