I have a Westinghouse 32" that is about 18 months old. A few months ago it became unreponsive to the remote and to the controls on the side of the tv. It happened at least once a week. Nothing would work- power, channels, volume ... nothing. So, for about a month I unplugged it and then plugged it back in to see if rebooting would help. That worked for a few weeks, but now it is totally useless. I plug it back in, it fires up to CNN where there is picture but no sound. The contols on the set and on the remote are totally useless. Out of warrany and SOL. Any tips besides boat anchor or watching the CNN scroll 24/7?
Does your set have a reset button on it? It sounds like we had the same problem from the beginning. In fact, we have bought and exchanged the tv 3 times because we thought maybe we just had a lemon. The picture would freeze and no buttons would fix it. We read in the owners manual about the reset button -- a tiny hole in the top of the power button on the right side of the tv. You can use the end of a paper clip and stick it in the hole to reset the tv. The tv powered off and then the remote and all the other buttons worked. Ours is still in the warranty but for the first month, it seemed like this happened at least 5 or 6 times. Haven't decided if we want to try to exchange it again or just live with it. Other than this, we love it!

What about them? Where to get them? This has caused much angst online, with some people saying Kogan is unresponsive.
The Logitech Harmony remotes will operate a Kogan, and you have the choice of a range of models. I have used one on a LG TV and it worked OK, but some buttons became mushy after about 2 yrs.
I had the same problem on my 676. I split the casing and cleaned the contacts and the bottom of the buttons with isopropyl alchohol about a month ago. Works fine now.
well the problem sounds like it could be the IR sensor on the tv or somthing in that circut that is failing or the EPROM chip that controls : Vol up/down , Channel up/down , Power on/off ,Menu , Input selection , ect... is failing, thus this will trigger the protection circut to shut the tv down. this kind of a problem only gets worse and can dammage other components if not repaired soon so it will need testing to determine the exact cause
