I took my Kindle off 'airplane mode' in order to download a few books...but nothing happened!! When I realized it was frozen, I tried shutting it down & turning it back on again, but nothing changed. Then I tried choosing one of the books to open, but again nothing happened but an error message. HELP!!

Try a different charger. If that fails too, you have a logic board issue. AmazonThe kindle screen is frozen on the sleep mode, the - 2_bing.gif should give you a replacement. If you're out warranty, you can get the part at Kindle Repair and there is a guide that shows you how to open a kindle and install parts at Kindle Repair Guide.

How can I tell if my kindle is charging?

When your Kindle is charging, a lightning bolt appears on the battery icon at the top of the Home screen. The indicator light on the bottom edge of your device turns amber while the battery is charging and green when it is fully charged. If you don't see a light, your Kindle is not charging.

After charging my lindle on my laptop i cant switch it on

Try charging it with the electrical wall plug-in.
I read in some Kindle reviews on Amazon that charging through USB ports on a computer doesn't always work.
Did you get a green light that indicated the battery was fully charged?

When I picked up my Kindle to read it today, the screen was on and frozen. I tried to turn the page and nothing happened. I tried turning it on and off and nothing happened. My husband held the power...

Your husband switched the device off. If you give the power switch a short nudge only, it goes in and out of "stand-by" mode, it is not really switched off.

Try to slide and hold the power switch again, until after the power light blinks three times. Should happe after ~5 seconds of holding. The Kindle should restart now --- takes about a minute, but you will see a progress bar to keep you happy during the delay.
