First check with the dealer and see if it is still under warranty. If it is not, make sure nothing is blocking the air flow around where the control modules are located. This could cause the voltage regulator and other electronic parts to overheat. Next check the brushes and make sure they are free of any dust or build up preventing them from making contact.

If everything is OK the next thing I would do is change the voltage regulator.

5500 Onan generator runs for hours then stops with over frequency code. Will start again and run for hours then stop again. Any ideas?

Can you check output for frequency with a meter? It tells me your frequency is high and needs to be adjusted alittle lower by adjusting the speed. The throttle needs to be adjusted! Can you find it? By the carb. The linkage adjusted alittle longer for less fuel to the engine. Good luck!

Generator runs great but produces no power

On Thursday last week I had 220 amp outlet being used and a 110 amp outlet being and overloaded the generator. It turned out to be the reset breakers failed to trip and blew the capacitor. The reset breakers I would suggest replacement after 7 years very easy to do on a 5500 Valsi generator 2010 model still running and now producing electric. And of course use only regular gas non Ethanol.

Onan 5500 generator cranks but does not start flashes 3 times for service required I can put gas in carb. and it will start but still will not run

check oil level if filter has not been change it. If there is a generator problem it will self shut down to keep you from causing more problems . Check on off switch has plug on it unplug try to start ,if starts motor not problem, have generator checked. running it with switch unpluged will cause major problems. burnt computer board on my 5500 voltage problem. It was cheaper to buy new one.

5500 watt generator will not run my 2hp air compressor

5500 watt generator will meet the 1491.4 watt requirement of the 2 hp compressor motor
given that 5500 watts generator is rated continuously at around 4500 watts and will handle spikes to the 5500 watts when electrical components start there should be plenty left
consider the possibility or a motor below full capacity, carby problem ( jets blocked , water, blocked air filter not getting full throttle from the governor lever, worn rings, type of fuel in use --E mix)

I have an onan marquis 5500 watt RV generator that runs fine ,but won't generate.

Call Onan and tell them the Inverter Board is bad. If you're not producing AC Power, have them send you a new board or warranty the entire genset. It's unusual for Onan products to go out like that, but not unlikely that this is the source of the problem.

Typically, the DC motor outputs at 12 volts, so the leads going in to the inverter are only going to be a ground and a positive lead. Should be very simple to replace. Worst case scenario is you can hook an external inverter up to the DC leads on the front of that generator. Might not get the full 5.5kw from the system, but you'll be able to produce some power.

check the reset-- if power to reset line, switch bad if no power -check feed out from generator if no out put then possible internal problem --winding or short

Engine runs but won't generate any electricity

Sometimes the generator loses the magnetic field that allows it to produce power. Do a Google search on "flashing a generator field". There are many ways to do it, but I would recommend doing some reading before trying it. Your "dead" generator could produce hazardous voltage once it comes back to life.

Also, before trying any of this, make sure the circuit breakers on the generator (if equipped) are not tripped.

Good luck and be careful!
