RCA D52W17 Rear Projection HDTV......No Sound

We were watching TV one evening and all of a sudden the sound cut-off! Picture is perfect, mute in not on. Tried connecting external speakers but no luck. I am assuming a chip or circuit need to be replaced but wondering also if connecting a stereo receiver and surround sound would work instead? Thanks.

I am currently trying different things with the audio options. When the amplifier option is on 'internal' there is a high static sound coming from the TV. Then I connected my computer speakers into the headphones jack in the front of the TV, switched the amplifier to 'external' and now I do get the sound but also with the static sound. I do not have a stereo receiver/surround sound system to use on the TV, but will try to borrow one to see it that will work.

Does the fact that I did get sound from plugging my computer speakers into the headphone jack give me any hope that this can be resolved without having to repair the internal speakers or chip??

I have exactly the same issue. When the setting is on internal speakers there is a high static sound coming out of the speakers. When I put the setting on external, I still have a high static coming out the audio output that goes to my external amplifier.

How do I fix that? Can I fix it myself? Thanks!

In the sound settings is the amplifer set to external or internal.
if thats not the problem.. the audio amp chip might be out. to repair this a technician usally replaces what is know as the small signal board.

Tv pops on and off suddenly after viewing for about 10 to 15 mins. this problem becomes progressively worst after prolonged viewing. as of today there is absolutely no picture and or sound.

Your symptoms exactly match this scenario: a component involved in picture & sound was failing intermittently, then progressed to a hard failure.

My suspect: a power capacitor in the power supply. They sometimes fail this way - when the dielectric breaks down completely, then the power supply fails, causing no pic/sound.

Fix: replace power supply (or the specific capacitor, if you can determine which one died).

My Hitachi TV model # 57f710s doesn't have picture or sound.

this could be your flyback (one of the most common problems) the part is cheap but the pro you need to put it in will not be!

RCA 52" Projection HDTV Ready Model "D52W26 (No Sound)

Maybe the sound is muted. Try pressing the volume up button to restore sound.
• If using S-Video or Y, PB, PR, remember to also connect the component’s left and right audio output jacks to the TV’s L and R Audio
Input jacks.
• If you're using the TV's internal speakers, make sure the INT/EXT switch on the back of the TV is put on “INT”.
• The sound settings may not be set correctly.
