Hello naushed,
I had the same issue with the white horizontal lines with myCanon Powershot series camera too. When taking pictures, I get the horizontal lines. In daylight, I almost cannot see the pictures because it gives me very bright output. In darker areas, the picture can still be toleratedbut white lines are still there. Although when I am taking a video, the quality is good.
I was able to read that there is one part insidethe camera's mechanism that is faulty. Its a CCD problem. You should bring this to a CanonAuthorized service center and they should replace and fix the faultypart, free of charge. I got my Camera fixed for FREE! I was able to do macro shots again.Trust me and go to canon. What I did is to print this advisory fromcanon itself. And show it to them.

As part of their advisory:
"Effective immediately, and regardless of warranty status, Canon willrepair, free of charge, the products listed above exhibiting theabove-mentioned malfunction if Canon determines that the malfunction iscaused by the CCD image sensor. Canon will also cover the cost ofshipping and handling in connection with this repair."
Hope this helps.
I have the same problem does anyone know a service center in the Netherlands near Arnhem where they will repair it for free? Thanks in advance.

I stay in Bangalore, India.. pls suggest me cacon care centers here if u knw..
Hi- My Powershot A430 just started behaving this way today. The video function works just fine, but I have horizontal lines. It sounds like the same problem. Unfortunately, I bought this camera in Europe, and the advisory you kindly attached seems only to apply to the United States. What would you advise that I do? Send it to a Canon service center, but expect to pay for the repairs? Thanks. -David

Hi!
No, it's not a software problem. The problem is that the shutter
doesn't work so it can't control the amount of light taken so the
pictures are very bright with horizontal lines. There are usualy two
causes - a broken shutter cable inside the lens or the shuuter blades
are stuck - may happen if the lens get wet or something adhesive gets
in it. It's a hardware problem so I suggest you contact local Canon or
other camera service center. It is considered a hard repair so it could
get expensive. I don't think it's worth it, so I would suggest you get
another camera.
Hope this helps!
