Husqvarna Viking 830 - The needle is severing the thread every time I start sewing. I feel it's a tension issue but the tension seems set properly. This comes after a needle broke, so I wonder is something else wrong in there?
Take the thread completely off the top of the machine. Put in a new needle. Remove the bobbin. When you rethread the top of the machine make sure the presser foot (that rests on the fabric) is in the "UP" position and rethread the top. Also when you thread the top, put some "pull" on the thread as you thread it, don't just lay the thread in the tracks. You need to pull the thread with some taughtness through the machine so it gets into the correct places under the covers so you have good tension and good stitching. Then put the bobbin back in and make sure when you thread the bobbin case that the thread "clicks" slightly as you pull the thread into the metal tension area of the black bobbin case. Anytime a sewing machine breaks thread at the needle, you should unthread the entire top and rethread it because the thread can jump out of it's guides that are under the plastic covers and you won't be able to see it, but you will see very ugly stitching!!!
