I'm thinking that you might have to install the chipset drivers, also.
Because the sound is part of the motherboard, they will be needed.

I have had this problem in the past.The solution is to do a clean reinstall of "windows XP" BUT !!!! before you start, remove the sound card, and the graphics card and any other cards from the motherboard. Reinstall XP. Only then do you reconnect all your cards to the motherboard. Windows will then say "found new hardware", so make sure you have the correct driver discs handy,(download them in advance if you have to) or Windows will just use one of it's own drivers. Guaranteed fix. I have used this technique with lots of different M/B's (XP assumes that anything attached to the motherboard is part of the motherboard, and ignores it's existance). Jim Duffy

K8V-X SE Sound Card In xp 64 does not work!

Hi brian_stiver,
click on this Asus link for the K8V-X SE board;
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=K8V-X%20SE&SLanguage=en-us

You must click the dropdown menu & choose Windows XP!
Than click the Search Button.
DO NOT pick Windows 64bit from the list of operating systems.

Asus list audio driver support for Win64bit here;
SoundMax AD1980/AD1888 Audio Driver version 5.12.2.5280 for Windows 64bit XP/2003.
Download the file named; ad1980_1888_51225280_64bit.zip
Create a folder on your desktop & name it Audio. Save the *.zip file in to your Audio folder. When you uncompress the the *.zip file keep all uncompressed files within your Audio folder.
The reason for keeping all the files within the Audio folder is you may need to install the sound drivers through windows device manager if the audio setup.exe program fails.

Good luck!
Mike

You should install the Chips drivers or intall all the driver in series listed in your CD Utilities. Its good if you download the latest drivers of your system at www.asus.com or here: http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

You should download for 64x2 drivers.

A8S-X no sound with vista

The latest XP drivers should do the job. Uninstall the drivers that you already installed. Unzip the driver files to a temp directory, then instruct the Found New Hardware wizard to search in the temp directory for drivers, or click on Update Driver through Device Manager then point the Wizard to search in the temp directory: SoundMax ADI1986A Audio Driver V5.12.1.5430 for Windows 2000/XP/2003: http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socket939/A8S-X/ADI1986A2000XP.zip
