Frequent VPN connection drop on my wifi

If you can't connect via the Internet to your workplace network from home (or another location), check the items in this list:

  • Make sure that you typed the virtual private network (VPN) server name exactly as provided by your network administrator.

  • You must have an active Internet connection for a VPN connection to work.

  • If your modem is external, make sure that the modem power is turned on.

  • Contact your network administrator to make sure that you have the appropriate connection and domain permissions on the remote access server.

  • This could be a certificate problem. For assistance, contact your network administrator.

  • A VPN connection won't work with an active Winsock proxy client. Contact your network administrator to make sure the Winsock proxy client is not enabled.

  • If you know the IP address (for example: 131.107.10.25) of a website, type that address in the address bar of your web browser and press Enter. If this works, there is probably a Domain Name System (DNS) resolution problem. For assistance, contact your network administrator.

  • If you have special software that's required or installed by your workplace, it could be part of the problem. For assistance, contact your network administrator.

  • If you know the IP address (for example: 131.107.10.25) of your VPN server, type that address for the VPN connection, and then press Enter. If this works, there is probably a DNS resolution problem. For assistance, contact your network administrator.

  • There could be a problem with the server you're trying to connect to. For assistance, contact your network administrator.

If you try to connect with a VPN connection and you see a message that says "The local computer does not support encryption" and has the error code 741, it's possible that the encryption that your computer uses doesn't match the encryption used by the VPN server. To change the encryption settings so that your computer uses the recommended setting of 3DES, follow these steps:

  1. Open Connect to a Network by clicking the network icon (eff2d36c-9e0d-4d1a-9859-3af14fa4ccfc_73.jpg or da12251d-1e9a-4032-afae-009876c6c5a3_80.jpg) in the notification area.

  2. Right-click the VPN connection, and then click Properties.

  3. Click the Security tab.

  4. Under Data encryption, select Maximum strength encryption (disconnect if server declines), and then click OK.

  5. Open Connect to a Network by clicking the network icon (eff2d36c-9e0d-4d1a-9859-3af14fa4ccfc_73.jpg or da12251d-1e9a-4032-afae-009876c6c5a3_80.jpg) in the notification area.

  6. Click the VPN connection, and then click Connect to try connecting again.

What i have to do for unblock to face book

If you want to access a restricted website by your school, workplace, etc, you can find an online proxy to bypass this. You can also try to use a VPN. A VPN is generally more secure rather than a proxy. A great web proxy is http://hidemyass.com. Best of luck.

First thing to try is making sure you have the latest firmware on the router. If you have not logged into it before you need to type http://192.168.2.1 in your browser address bar and log in when prompted. The router by default does not have a password set so it might be worth setting one in system settings. You should find on the menu an option to update the firmware. Read the screen should guide you how do this. If the firmware is up-to-date and you still have a problem try disabling your firewall on the pc to see if it's getting in the way. Don't leave the firewall off if you find it's causing the problem you just have to work out how to configure it to allow the traffic out. The route should allow this traffic out by default.

VPN misconfigured after belkin router was configured XP

Hi Grahmmy..
I am myself a (cisco certified network associate)CCNA, we have configured several VPNs on XP, please try these steps and im sure you'll be able to reconfigure the Virtual private network on your XP...
  1. First open the control panel by clicking start, open the Network Connections item in Control Panel. A list of existing dial-up and LAN connections will appear.
  2. Choose the 'Create a new connection' item from the left-hand side of the window. The Windows XP New Connection Wizard will appear on the screen.
  3. First click Next to begin the wizard, then choose the 'Connect to the network at my workplace' item from the list and click Next.
  4. On the Network Connection page of the wizard, choose the 'Virtual Private Network connection' option and click Next.
  5. Enter a name for the new VPN connection in the 'Company Name' field and click Next. The name chosen need not match the name of an actual business.
  6. Choose an option on the 'Public Network' screen and click Next. The default option, 'Automatically dial this initial connection' can be used if the VPN connection will always be initiated when the computer is not already connected to the Internet. Otherwise, choose the 'Do not dial the initial connection' option. This option requires that the public Internet connection be established first, before this new VPN connection will be initiated.
  7. Enter the name or IP address of the VPN remote access server to connect to, and click Next. Company network administrators will provide this information.
  8. Choose an option on the "Connection Availability" screen and click Next. The default option, 'My Use Only,' ensures that Windows will make this new connection available only to the currently logged on user. Otherwise, choose the 'Anyone's use' option.
  9. Click Finish to complete the wizard. The new VPN connection information has been saved. Good luck ;-)

My employer gave me a Dell 6400 Latitude Laptop to use at home through a VPN connection. I have a plug in connection at home. How do I hook up my laptop at home?

Connect your ethernet cable from your Broadband modem into your laptop. Make sure you can browse webpages. Open the VPN software installed by your employer, and enter your login credentials assigned by your employer to authenicate. Once connected, you will have Network Access and Intranet Connections to your workplace. This will work from WiFi hotspots, hotels, Internet cafes, etc. If you do not yet have your VPN software installed, or have your credentials, speak to your employer as they may need to create and account and a certificate for your VPN connection.

Vpn error. 800

Resolutions: 1) if you have firewall, open TCP Port 1723, IP Protocol 47 (GRE). 2) make sure you can reach the VPN server by using ping. Sometimes, poor connection can cause this issue too. 3) You may need to updated firmware on a router or firewall if other OS (win9x/nt/me/w2k) works except XP. 4) The VPN server may not be able to get IP from DHCP for the VPN client. So, you may want to re-configure VPN host networking settings. For XP pro VPN host, go to the Properties of the VPN>Network, check Specify TCP/IP address and Allow calling computer to specify its own IP address, and uncheck Assign TCP/IP addresses automatically using DHCP. 5) Make sure no other secure software blocks your access, for example, if you use Norton secure software, you may need to add the remote client's IP so that the client can access. 6) If your VPN running on a Windows RRAS with NAT enabled, you may want to check the NAT settings. 7) If you can establish the VPN from the desktop at home but not from the laptop. Make sure no security software like Microsoft OneCare software that blocks the GRE.
