Washer has been making an unusual amount of noise / burning smell

Washer has been making an unusual amount of noise during the spin cycle. today it smells like a burning belt. I checked the belt in the rear of the machine and it looks ok and I do not see any signs of component damage. Also is it possible to pop the top to look down inside?

Remove the door and screws on opposite side and the front comes off. Then the top will flip up.

Maytag atlantis series mav6200aww, there was a burning rubbery smell today when it was in the spin cycle. I turned it off and unplugged it what could it be

could be a belt and or the pulleys under the machine are plastic so one of them could have melted along with the belt smoking. could be something in pump or look in washer and see if there mite be a nail or something like a nail in one of the little holes in the inner tub . the nail could be making the machine not spin and could be causing the belt also to smoke.

Washer make noise doing spin cycle smell smoke make the power cord warm to touch

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site Joe. Usually, if a washer makes noises during spinning, it means the drive basket is broken. Make sure your pulley's are not sticking and rubbing the belt. This causes the basket to be unstable during the spin cycle. As far as the smell of smoke, try checking the belt and make sure it is not worn or loose. Inspect the motor to check for noises, grinding, or smoke. Your transmission may be burning up. Usually, the cord will remain warm, but not hot. The washer may be working extra if a belt is sticking or during the spinning process. If you have any other questions Joe, just let me know. Thanks for using FixYa.

Maytag Atlantis shut down during rinse cycle.

Contacted a local repair shop. They told me that if I got it spinning again, the motor was most likely ok. It is protected by a thermal switch that turns it off when it begins to overheat. The smell was to be expected as it was overheating; the difficutly restarting was because it hadn't cooled off enough yet. We have now used it a few times for small loads. Still getting a smell, but the wash cycle is completing ok.
