    the OS is XP

  • Anonymous Nov 24, 2009

Thanks but that is the problem. When I go to the wireless networkconnection properties tab, the only tab available is the General tab. I have another computer running this wireless system and it has the General tab as well as a Wireless Network tab and an advanced tab. Under the Wireless Network tab is the "Use Window" box. However with the computer I am trying to configure, there is no place to check the "use windows" and the system will not set up an IP address.

    Can you mention the OS|?

If you're using windows XP then you need to start the Wireless Zero Configuration. just click on the start button and choose run then type in services.msc in the run box and click on ok. in the services window just look for Wireless Zero Configuration, it's at the bottom part of the list. just double click it and under the General tab you'll see a box for the Start up type, just set it to Automatic and then on the Service status click Start and then Ok button. once you finish this, you will be able to see the Wireless network tab to be able to select the "use windows to configure my network". in case you're using vista, that option is actually not available as it automatically starts the windows wireless manager and only conflicts if there is a third party software/ wireless manager installed in your computer.

hope this helps...

How do i reset it my wireless adapter

If I were you, I'd first let Windows Manage Wireless Network Connections:
  1. Click Start If you're using XP, click Start then open the Control Panel. Find the Switch to Classic View button in the Control Panel and click it.
  2. Open Network Connections Open Network Connections then double-click the Wireless Network Connection icon.
  3. Click the Properties Click the Properties button. Look for the boxes at the bottom of the Properties window that read "Show icon in notification area when connected" and "Notify me when this connection has limited or no connectivity" and make sure they are both checked.
  4. You could also right click on the Wireless Network Connection icon and click Properties from there.
  5. Open Wireless Networks tab Open the Wireless Networks tab and make sure the box labeled "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" is checked. Then click OK.
  6. under Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center you could find "manage wireless connection" there you could assign/delete wireless connection.

No wifi toshiba satellite a665d s5178 un able to install a wireless drive and fnf8 doesnt work

Is the wireless switch on that is located on the side or front of the laptop?

Did you ever see any wireless networks to connect to? If so, did yours try to connect? maybe you have the password/network key in wrong. It will never connect if the password is wrong.

For Windows XP below:
Click Start/Control Panel/Network Connections then Right Click on the WirelessNetwork Connection and select Properties. When the Properties window openclick the Wireless Networks tab. Click on the SSID for your wirelessnetwork that you connect to and the Properties window will open. You canchange the Authentication Type to match the type set in your wireless routerand you can also change your password or Network Key to make sure you have itin correctly.

For Windows Vista below:

Click Start/Control Panel/Network and Sharing Center then look to the left ofthe open window and click Manage Wireless Networks. Find the SSID of thenetwork that you connect to and double click it. When the window opensclick the Security tab to change the Security Type (which is theAuthentication), The Encryption Type and the Network Security Key (which is thepassword).

For Windows 7 below:
Click Start/Control Panel/Network and Internet/Network and Sharing Center thenlook to the left and select Manage Wireless Networks. Find the SSID of thenetwork that you connect to and double click it. When the window opensclick the Security tab to change the Security Type (which is theAuthentication), The Encryption Type and the Network Security Key (which is thepassword).

It does not connect

Wireless Adapter is a device that will receive the wireless signals and will make your computer wireless adapter. without the wireless adapter you can not use the computer to connect to the wireless network. Now a days all the laptops and desktops are equipped with the built in wireless adapters.
First check whether you have a wireless adapter on your computer ?

WIN XP
Right click on MY COMPUTER ==> properties ==> Device Manager ==>
you will see Network adapter ==> under network adapter you will see the wireless adapter ==> Right clink on the wireless adapter ==> properties => Check whether it says the Device is working properly or not ?If it says working properly then that's great !

WIN VISTA/ Windows 7
Click START ==> Control Panel ==> In the right hand side at the top you will see " Classic View "
Switch to classic view ==> you will see Device Manager ==> Under Network Adapters you will find your wireless adapter listed . Right clink on the wireless adapter ==> properties => Check whether it says the Device is working properly or not ? If it says working properly then that's great !

If you do not see wireless adapter in the Device manager , then either you do not have the adapter or the wireless adapter is not working .If you see "yellow exclamation mark" on the wireless adapter, that means the drivers are not installed for the adapter or not working. Reinstall the drivers.
Once your adapter is working properly , try to connect to the wireless network.

If you are installing the external wireless adapter to the computer and if you are using Windows 2000 or Windows 98 , ME, then you will have to connect to the wireless network using the utility of that adapter.
If you are using Win XP then you can use windows to connect to the wireless network or you can use other utility.
In case of Win VISTA, you will use windows to connect to the wireless network.

      • If you can view the properties for the Wireless Network Connection icon, but you do not see a Wireless Networks tab, see the Drivers that do not support the Wireless Zero Configuration service section to continue troubleshooting.

      • If the Authentication tab is missing in the Wireless Network Connection properties, make sure that the Wireless Zero Configuration service is running.

My internet adapter is fitted, installed but still does not work.

try to uninstall the software that came from the adapter and just install the drivers. Windows XP has its own wireless utility so try to use that instead.
