The lid will not lock.

The lid won't lock to the washer so I cannot start the washer. I called the toll free number for assistance and did not receive any help. The lid locked button is flashing and beeping five or six times at a time. I tried pushing the slot with a screwdriver where the lid locks, but nothing happened.

My kenmore top loading washer is not spinning and the spin lite just flashes also the lid lock lite is not on. lid does not lock any ideas?

If the lid does not lock the safety controls will not allow a spin. Look for a broken lid lock - either the lock assembly or the small latch finger that inserts into the lock.

With no model number there is no way to be more precise. Sears Kenmore is sourced from more than one supplier (manufacturer) and there are literally thousands of models over the years.

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Door or Lid Latch Assembly If the washer lid won't lock the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly If the washer door won't lock the door lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.
Main Control Board If the washer door won't unlock the problem might be the main control board. This is not common. Normally the problem is with the lock mechanism.

Locking mechanism

replace the lid lock ! its a safety measure. I would not recommend removing or bypassing lid lock. just replace it. without the lid lock it will work with lid open. good-day ! if you really what to bypass the lid lock. Find the wire that goes to the switch. Splice the wires together and the machine will think the lid is shut all the time. if you can not get top of washer off. just call an appliance center and give them the model and serial number. and they should be able to tell you. good-day !

D L light comes on and washer will not start, lid will not lock.

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

'dL' does stand for 'door Lock (error)' confirming that there is a problem either with the lid lock (probably) or the lid locked sensor requiring a service call, sorry ;-0(

If this has assisted and/or clarified the situation for you please consider a 4 thumbs up on our rating.
Thanks and good luck!

Won't spin

If a washer will agitate and wont spin check the lid switch. Lid switches are designed to not allow spin on most washer but will allow agitate. Safety feature.

Codef1

This is a known problem with this model. Call 800-847-9083 and give them the model and serial number to see if your unit is covered by a recall on the control board. I called a few weeks ago and they sent the part and a tech to install it for free on my 3 year old machine.
