I have the Whirlpool Cabrio top loading washer and am getting an F1 error. What is this about a recall?
F1 means the control board is shot. Call whirlpool and they should take care of the parts and labor even though your machine is out of warranty.
On front load Whirlpool washers, F1 error usually signals a problem with the control board. However, there are a few other things you can try before spending money on a new control board:
To remove the error display, press Pause/Cancel twice. Unplug your machine for 1 minute and then plug it back in. Reselect the cycle and press Start. In certain cases, this will reset the F1 code.
According to some repair companies, the reason for the error could be blockage inside the pressure switch hose. There are a lot of examples online of how you can check the hose for blockage.
If the hose is ok, then you should proceed with replacing the control board. It's a very easy repair. You can find instructions on how to replace the control board and check the hose on the Whirlpool F1 Error web site.
There seem to be a lot of people who experienced F1 errors on Whirlpool washers. It is possible there is a problem with their control boards and some people reported that Whirpool has paid for the repair, even if it was out of warranty. Here is a link to one guy's page with a receipt for repair, and a credit card received from Whirlpool containing money for the repair :) Cabrio Washer by Whirlpool F1 Error Code
Please note that all of this applies to front load washers, but I guess some of it could apply also to top load washers. Hope this helps.
