The "Clean" LED light flashes in sequences of 7 time. The machine won't start. According to the diagnostic brochure behind the lower panel, after getting the machine into the diagnostic mode it will reset itself. I followed the instructions and pressed in sequence the Hi Temp, Air Dry, Hi Temp, Air Dry keys. All the lights went on and stayed on. Nothing else happens. How do I know when the diagnostic cycle is over? Do I need to press anything else? Or the cycle progresses automatically? I left it like that for 30 minutes and nothing changed. I finaly stopped it by pressing the Cancel key. I did that few times and still the clean LED flashes 7 times. I cutoff the power to the machine and reconnected it but still the Clean LED is flashing and the machine can't be started. Any suggestion? Thank you
For KitchenAid Whirlpool KUDS01FLSS0 -- When the clean light is blinking or flashing 7 times in a row and no other front panel controls will work, do the following:
push SaniRinse-EnergySaverDry- SaniRinse - Energy Saver Dry
(Try the Heated Dry button if you don't have a Energy Saver Dry button)
All the lights will then come on as this will put the unit into diagnostic mode.
Then, push Cancel after about 10 seconds. You are no longer locked out. Run the dishwasher normally.

Mine did the same thing, however, the suggestion didn't work, that is until I closed the door. Press the buttons as the previous guy said, and when all the lights turn on, close the door. My machine tried to start from there, and I'm guessing wanted to complete the previous cycle, but turned off after a couple of minutes. After that, I simply opened the door, and it reset itself. I picked out my buttons from there it was good to go. Thank you everyone, you saved me a huge bill, or my husband wanting to blow my dishwasher lines with an air compressor ha ha!!

Mine worked just like Lisa Smith. I had called KitchenAid and they had said, "unfortunately, you will need a service call." I said "No, thanks." Then I went to the internet where I should have started! Thanks a googol.
Yes, that worked. I had to close the dishwasher door, then do the steps previously mentioned and voile'.

Thank you so much! I have not used my dishwasher for almost 2 years. I called a repair man the first time the "clean" light started flashing. He pushed some buttons, and 3 minutes later he was gone with a smile ( after having left a $100.00 repair bill).
I have been contacting Kitchenaid and my dealer for months. No help - no service.

I will never buy a Kitchenaid product again. Not because the products aren't good but - the after service is horrible.
The control looks for the temperature to increase 4 degrees with cooler (roughly <110° F) inlet water and 2 degrees when there is hot (roughly >110° F) inlet water. If the temperature rise is less than the criteria, then the unit will drain and blink the clean light 7 times. The detection will be ignored if the temperature is out of its normal range, 64° - 160° F, or the door is opened during the fixed heat.
Proper incoming water temperature should be between 120°- 140° F. Other causes of insufficient temperature rise would include wires off at the control, heating element, thermistor, inlet valve, door switch, motor or capacitor, failure of any of the above components or siphoning of the water during fill.
Power off at the circuit breaker for 30 seconds. That should clear it

It's (almost) certain that the heater is at fault. Disconnect power and check the heater leads (underneath at the rear of the unit - these have long hex nuts securing them and you will see a wire going to this fastener too) then perform a simple continuity test with an ohm meter. The replacement element has had a slight redesign and will look a bit different but fits and works without problems. Your new element should also come with a replacement control board that has been redesigned for improved operation. All of this can be accomplished without emoving the d/w from the cabinet.
just out of curiosity, how do you get to the back of the dishwasher without removing it from cabinet. if the leads are underneath at the rear????
Although it is a bit of a reach, you can reach under the dishwasher (around the motor/pump assembly) to access the two wiring connections located at the rear of the tank where the heat element attaches. Of course, all tests should be performed with the power disconnected from the dishwasher for safety.

I just want to say "THANK YOU" so much... The same thing happened last year to where the last was flashing 7 times next to clean and when I called kitchen aid they said it was the control panel and sent the company they deal with in our area, and all these guys want is money. They pt in a new control panel and charged me $300.00, it took them all of 2 min and they did not even bother to wait for the cycle to run through, and before it was over the cycle stopped and the light was blinking again. After all of that money I asked for a supervisor to come out because everyone of my kitchen aid appliances and whirlpool **** and they have been to my home several times, and I knew at that point that I got ripped off. They really treat women as if they are stupid, and I am just referring to the repair co. for kitchen aid, I think they are called B & E. Anyway I appreciate not having to put anymore $$$ into this dishwasher as it is not worth it.. No more Kitchen aid/ whirlpool appliances.

Even though you reset the board the flashing light is an error code,you either have a bad heater or the board is bad,once you reset it after like 6 or 7 wash loads it will start over again,if you remove the bottom kick panel,you'll find the tech sheet there,look up light flashes 7 times and it will tell you how to check the heater from the board to see what part has failed.
I have seen it where the heater relay on the board is actually burned.
So if resetting your board does not work you might want to check this. This is a board I removed from a unit that had their clean light blinking 7 times. It would reset but once the dishwasher was back in use there was the clean light blinking again.

There are 2 switches that close 2 circuits when you close the door.
The one on the right side is not staying closed, thus the heating circuit is shutting down.
An easy test is to trade the 2 wires on each switch to the other side.
This should eliminate the clean light blinking and cause the dishwasher to just turn off.
The newer designs have eliminated this double switch design.
Just buy a new latch switch kit.

The cleam light blinking means that the unit was not able to reach a proper heated wash cycle. Either your heating element failed orthe actual sump/pump motor system has failed. Check the element in the botton and see if it looks broken anywhere. If you can see a broken spot, you will k now that is the trouble.

Dear sagacious. Just found out from another site how to take care of my problem. I am sending you the information for future reference. The procedure is: Press in rapid sequence the following keys: Hi Temp, Air Dry, Hi Temp, Air Dry. Then, close the door until it latches, then press the Cancel key. When I followed this procedure the machine reset itself and now it is running (we'll see for how long???).
Note: Before, after I press these keys I didn't close the door and apparently that what made the difference.

our superbra does not have air dry it hs energy saver. It does not come on at all. It is almost at if there is no power going to the unit, there are no lights flashing

Nice, it worked for me too. Our model (KUDP02CR) does not have "Air Dry", but it has "Heat Dry". I just pressed "High temp, heat dry, high temp, heat dry" then closed the door firmly, and the dishwasher started working again.
I have the same problem with a new KitchenAid dishwasher just purchased in early September. The dishwasher appeared to be working fine, but after the third wash, the blue "clean" light began flashing. I did the reset procedure described here, and the flashing blue light went away, and the dishwasher could be used agian. However, after three washes, the blue "clean" light began flashing again. I have reset it again, but feel like the flashing light will come back after three washes. I found a video by Whirlpool that gives instructions to techs on how to fix this problem. It is definitley related to the heating element, and the video states that if the fault occurs three consecutive washes, the light will flash. That is exactly what mine has done twice. Service guy is supposed to come this week to look at it. I hope this is not going to be a recurring problem, because this was an expensive dishwasher.

the bottons for me were high temp scrub, energy save dry, high temp scrub, energy save dry, then close. then open and press cancel. It worked. I am looking for new dishwasher.
Important note! When you do the button sequence... close the dishwasher. It should run through whatever it needs to do.
Important Note! When you punch in the sequence... you need to close the door on the dishwasher to let it run through it's cycle.
Worked like a charm. Important to close the door before doing the button sequence and just let it run through it's cycle until it shuts off.
