If the drum spins but the agitator doesn't agitate then its the dog(lil arm things) that grab the agitator ridges to work. If the drum doesn't spin at all its the belt under the drum. it's either broke the belt or has worn and slipped off or the drum was way off balance and kicked it off(belt) . way cheaper to fix either than buy new and most new ones have no agitator anymore so how does it clean better? In my opinion, they don't so I get the parts online at repair clinic and do it my self. Sorry Maytag Repair man. But I saved a lot
sorry to say you have a very expensive to repair problem ): the transmission has a brake built into which is suppose to hold the tub in place during the agitation cycle and then release on the spin cycle to spin. the brake isnt engaging and the only fix is to replace the transmisson which is very expensive. it may work for awhile then as it gets worse and the tub moves more during the wash cycle water will slosch out of it all over the floor,sorry to break the bad new
the magnetic lid switch thats mounted along the right side of where the lid sits is bad remove front cover and unclip it from underneath the top cover its a g.e. part number-- wh12x10334
Pull the agitator out and check the drive collar splines.If you have the model I think you have just pull straight up on the agitator. Once removed you will see the drive collar with a 7/16 head bolt,remove it and pull off the collar.First before pulling it off spin it if splines are stripped it will spin freely.
