Picture gets bad after playing a while

My Aiwa-hv mx1u has a problem!
The thing is, I haven't used this vcr for almost 9-years.
Now, when I try to play the tape, it started to play nicely, but after apxm. 40 minutes the picture turned to a many horizontal lines with squeaky sound.
Tape is alright, it didn't stuck in the vcr or anything like that.

I've tried again, but now the play does not start with nice picture at all, but rather with lines with same squeaky sound.

Is this because I haven't used the vcr for so long? Belt, maybe?
Please help!!!

Just the usual problem of needing the rubber belts replaced.
They last about 6 years normally so you are overdue.
Buy a kit of belts for your model from all kinds of sites on the net and install them yourself if you are handy with delicate mechanisms.
Hope ya fix it!

Aiwa HV MX1SHV VCR. Where to install 3 new replacement belts (as in O-ring drive belts)

Question edited for clarity
Question moved from Cars and Trucks.

I can find anything, and what was termed a 'Service Manual' was in fact a parts manual. Try running the machine and you will see a pulley turning. The pulleys have to be in line. Put a belt on that one, and the pulley opposite it. Then see what that turns and follow the drive train.

AIWA VCR model HV-MX1problem

with the unit unplugged take the case off and look on both sides of where the front of the tape would set, you will see two towers, one is a light and the other a receiver, check to see they are plugged in and not obstructed. Also there is a switch that the tape pushes when its all the way in which might be stuck, click it a couple times with your finger. This might help, there are other more complicated things which could cause this problem but mechanical problems are more likely.

Aiwa HV-MX100 multiformat VCR won't power on...

Too little information to give any information / help / opinion. What actually happens? Does the Display come on properly? Do you hear any mechanical Noises? Like a motor whirring? Are you able to load a cassette into the machine? Does it get ejected automatically? As you say that the machine switches ON, I assume tyhat the Power supply cicuits are Ok, and this leaves us with the possibility that there is a mechanical problem. Is it that the machine was not used for a long operiod of months or years? If that is the case, in all probability the belts are damaged / broken / loose. I really need more info, please.

Our Aiwa MX100 doesn't play our pal system tapes

Just Clean the Video heads with a Wet Type Head Cleaner. Do 2 or 3 runs. Should clear up the problem.
