First, figure out what CAUSED the problem. Often times, when Windows is rendered unbootable, there is a good reason. This can often be due to hardware failure (bad hard disk, memory or CPU for example). In these cases, the system repair function will not work. System repair will only repair your software.

I strongly recommend you run a disk utility on your hard drive before performing a system repair. You can find more information about disk utilities here:

Memory can also cause these problems. A good memory test can be found here: http://www.memtest.org

Reset bios

  • Restart the system. Click on "Start," "Turn off Computer" and "Restart."
  • At the Dell loading screen Tap "F2" to enter the BIOS. "Entering Setup" will appear. Certain models may use a different key. The key will be displayed during the boot process. For most Dell models, the key is "F2."
  • Once loaded, depending on BIOS version and type, you can reset the defaults by using "F9" key to Load Defaults, the "Load defaults" button on screen, or the "Alt" + "F" key combination to load factory defaults.
  • Press "Esc" on your keyboard and select save and exit.
  • Choose the "Enter" key to save all changes and exit the BIOS screen. Allow your system to restart for the BIOS settings to reset.

I have massive boot issues...Can't enter BIOS>laptop freezes. Can't load windows in any form safe mode or otherwise. Can't install new copy of windows either freezes or gives a file not...

If you can't even enter the bios, it means you have a hardware failure somewhere, as the bios is independent of the operating system (Windows) and only needs a functional power supply, motherboard, CPU, RAM and of course keyboard to navigate. A hard drive isn't even needed to enter the bios. In fact, it might be a good idea to remove the hard drive and try again to enter the bios, in case the hard drive interface is causing an issue. If you do manage to get into the bios, try to navigate to where you can set the bios back to factory default. If you still can't enter the bios after disconnecting the hard drive, then it's a matter of trial and error, swapping out RAM, the power supply, CPU and removing any other peripherals that may be removable (like a wifi card or DVD drive). If you can't reliably get into and then smoothly navigate the bios, I'm afraid it is unlikely that you'll be able to install and boot Windows.

How do fix this bios probem error 0167

BIOS is the program that tells your computer how to start up. Someone may have upgraded yours without finishing the job.

If your computer seems to run fine when you press F2, there's no rush (you can run it like this until you get it looked at).

You should have a knowledgeable person or technician enter SETUP (F1) and load the default settings. That should stop the error.

If you decide to enter Setup youself, it is at your own risk! Loading the defaults might reduce your system performance (it might not even recognize your hard drive), requiring customization in SETUP.

If you have a service contract, call and have them walk you through the process.

HI, I have an MS3200 keyboard and the time is incorrect because of daylight savings. I looked online and the way it showed to fix it did NOT work. How do I change the time? Please and thank you!

You need to access your bios to correct the main clock of the PC. Computer manufacturers use different keys to access the bios, but it will always be as your computer is FIRST starting up, before the operating system or anything else loads. Just watch for a message saying 'Press f2 for setup' or 'DEL to enter bios' immediately after you turn your computer on. Popular bios access buttons are DEL, F2, F12 and F10, but your system may use a different keystroke. Once inside your bios you should see the time that is set. Check the legend at the bottom or the right of your bios screen to see how you would change the values of the time, and then make sure you save before you exit the bios. Avoid changing any other settings, as there are a lot of settings within the bios that if changed, could cause your computer to act strangely, or not even load the operating system.

After boot, appears ENTER PRIMARY MASTER HDD USER Password i need the password @ solution to boot up my lappy... thanks

How Do I Change the Primary Master HDD User Password?

Prior to loading an operating system, your computer will first execute the BIOS program. The BIOS has an extra password feature, called the hard disk drive (HDD) user password, that can't be bypassed and provides a layer of defense to keep your data secure. To change an existing HDD user password you will have to load the BIOS menu, which is only accessible during the computer's operating system reboot procedure.

Instructions

1. Close any windows that are currently open on your computer. Eject any discs inserted into the optical drive and disconnect any peripheral USB devices.

2. Open the "Start" menu and select "Shut Down." Turn on your computer once the operating system finishes shutting down.

3. Press the key your computer uses to load the BIOS menu. For example, with Dell computers tap "F2" when the "Press F2 for Setup" option appears. Press the "Access IBM" key on IBM laptops or "F10" on HP desktops.

4. Navigate to the BIOS tab that contains the HDD password option, which will usually be the "Security" tab. Some computer manufactures instead include the password option in the "Advanced" tab.

5. Scroll down to the option labeled either "User Password" or "BIOS lock" and hit "Enter." Type the current master HDD user password when the prompt appears and press "Enter."

6. Input a new HDD user password and hit "Enter" again. Navigate to the BIOS tab labeled "Exit" or something similar.

7. Move over to the "Save and Exit" entry and press "Enter." Select "Yes" and tap "Enter."

Reset the BIOS on a Compaq server 740 jumpers settings

Don,t do that insatead:
Entering the BIOS Setup menu Entering the BIOS Setup menu requires pressing a specific key at a specific time. If you fail to enter the Setup menu on your first try, repeat the following steps until you are successful:
  1. Close all applications that are currently running and restart the computer by clicking Start , Shut Down , Restart the Computer , and then OK .
  2. When the red Compaq logo or blue HP logo screen appears, press the F10 key on the keyboard to enter the Setup menu.

NOTE: An alternate to the above steps, especially if the logo screen disappears too quickly to enter BIOS, is to shut down (turn off) the computer. Wait 30 seconds, turn the power on and press F10 or F1 at the logo screen. Reloading the default settings Complete the following steps to reload the factory installed BIOS Setup settings:
  1. In the BIOS Setup utility, select the Exit tab.
  2. Select Load Setup Defaults .
  3. Select Save Changes and Exit (pressing F5 and the Enter key will also load the Setup Defaults).
  4. Press Esc and then Enter to exit Setup.

I think my system 32 files may have been deleted by some idiot in my dorm, the system wont load and wont respond to any BIOS either, will porting a system 32 file from another computer of the same OS fix...

Bios comes long before it enters the harddrive. actually to bios has the driver to open the harddisk. so, you cannot ruin the bios even if you through the harddisk away. If bios is not responding, it has issue other then those system32 files. (pc can run without those system32 files if you had linux) If it stucks on loading windows, then system32 file copy may help.
