Low oil doesn't usually make engines cut out. Clean the air filter, change the plug and wire. If this doesn't help then I think you're looking at a carb. problem. Probably just clogged jets & ports. It's very common on small engine carbs. It shouldn't take more than 2 quarts of oil. Probably not even one.

this model will NOT start if the oil is low, fill until it is to the lip of the fill hole

I have proforce 2500 watt gen and it done the same thing. I thought it was the carb because it would run for about 45 seconds when I first started it and then start surging. I cleaned the carb checked the float and it did not help. I removed the gas tank and tilted it on end for about 5 minutes and reinstalled it. It works great now. I need to clean the trash out of the gas tank. You can also remove the gas shut off valve from the tank and check for trash.

I just bought a used coleman 2500 watt 5hp generator that starts using starting fluid but no gas getting to the engine, how o I go about cleaning the jets out?

take off carb, remove idle screw, the jet is a flat screw under that, remove and clean out holes, i used come copper trailer wire to fit in the tiny holes, cleaned up the idle nicely.

I have proforce powermate 2500 watt generator and it wont start

Try starting fluid. If it starts with that, then it is s fuel problem. If not check for spark.

Will not start. May need a new spark plug. What size is it?

it should say on the side of the plug very carefully hold the coil wire about a 1/4 inch away from the head or other metal object and crank it and see if it is firing be careful and dont get shocked and make sure to stay away from gas tank and gas fumes and if it sparks chances are it is the plug

and check the oil level because it has a low oil shutdown switch and if it is out of oil or low it wont start

PF 2500 watt generator... Need plug and oil

30wt oil, probably a Champion RN4C plug. Could give link to a manual if part / model number of generator was provided.

Remove generator from engine

Pull the end off the generator and you will have to buy or borrow an armature puller to remove the armature. It threads into the end of the shaft and pushes it off. I've seen many people destroy their generator by prying with screwdrivers. The engine has a tapered shaft and is sort of useless for any other application other than a generator.
