Hello, Have a Kenmore series 70 (capcity plus).

Hello, Have a Kenmore series 70 (capacity plus). The washer won't stopped filling unless I stop it. Additionally, it doesn't seem to go into the wash cycle (agitate). I can manual push through cycles (starting with the spin cycle). The water drains.... Is this a problem with the level switch or hose?

Note after reading a bunch of information. I went home and removed the hose from the Level Switch and "clean it", if you will and re-attached. Started a load, and bingo bango bongo, it work. Thanks for the insight.

Washing machine keeps draining during rinse

You may be experiencing a condition known as "siphoning". This is caused by the drain hose not being high enough off the floor, or not having a proper air gap at the standpipe in order to drain properly. This creates a suction and the washer will constantly drain as it tries to fill. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3575830-how_to_prevent_washer_siphoning

In the majority of the cases, this problem is attributed to improper installation, rather than an actual problem with the washer. If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Series 70 fills wit water stops then makes a slight buzzing sound

The electric motor my have failed or a part called a capacitor could be the problem? The capacitor is part of the starting circuit of the electric motor, if this fails the motor will not start therefore the washing machine won't spin or agitate.

Kenmore washer won't stop filling w/ water

The problem is most likely the water level switch. This would be the case if the water is able to be turned off with the dial on the washer and not running all the time.

If it is running all the time and you have to turn it off at the water line valve, then the problem is a stuck water fill valve.

If you need more help, post a comment.

You can find information on the parts at partselect.com.

You can buy parts from them or find them locally if you want.

Thanks,

Tim

Kenmore Washing Machine 70 series

You most likely have a broken coupler between the motor and gearcase.
You can buy the part for about $10 or have someone come out and replace it for about $150-200.
If you will post the complete model number from the the washer so I can see which style cabinet you have, I will try to walk you through the repair. It isn't very complicated if you are handy with home repairs.
With the age of the machine it probably just needs a coupler, but it could also have a problem in the transmission or basket drive that has caused the failure.
