Amana SQD25VL coils cool, but deepfreeze fan does not engage

I have an Amana SQD25VL. The coils are cooling, but the Fan does not engage, so only the bottom of the fridge / freezer is cool and the top part of both are warm. I replaced the defrost timer, but the problem still seems to occur. what are your thoughts?

Sounds like a bad fan motor. Be sure power is getting to it.

Amana bottom freezer, all working OK, but very noisy freezer. How do I fix it?

There are a few potential causes of a noisy bottom freezer. Here are some things you can try to fix the problem:
  1. Check for frost buildup: Frost buildup can cause the freezer to become louder as it has to work harder to keep things frozen. To check for frost buildup, remove all items from the freezer and unplug the fridge. Then, use a hair dryer to melt any frost that has accumulated on the evaporator coils (usually located behind the back panel of the freezer).
  2. Check for loose parts: Some common sources of noise in a freezer are loose screws, washers, or other small parts. Check for any loose items and tighten them as needed.
  3. Check the evaporator fan: The evaporator fan is responsible for circulating air within the freezer. If the fan is not working properly, it can cause the freezer to become noisy. You can check the fan by removing the back panel of the freezer and listening for any unusual noises. If you suspect the fan is the problem, you may need to replace it.
  4. Check the compressor: The compressor is responsible for circulating refrigerant and cooling the freezer. If the compressor is malfunctioning, it can cause the freezer to become noisy. You can check the compressor by listening for any unusual noises or by checking the compressor with a multimeter. If you suspect the compressor is the problem, you may need to replace it.
If you are unable to fix the problem yourself, you may want to consider contacting a repair service. They will be able to diagnose and fix the issue more accurately.

Freezer temperature not uniform

If you hear the fan then it might be sticking on defrost mode.

Freezer not uniformly cold

Check the fan vent to see it's not blocked or frozen. Sometimes a defrost will clear ice temporarily, but it will happen again if you have a bad fan.

Why is there ice build-up on the bottom shelf on an automatic defrost freezer?

It sounds like unit is not properly going into defrost or your evaporator fan motor is starting to go bad

Fost accumilating inside

There are three components that control the automatic defrost cycle.

#1 is the defrost timer, this is a simple clock and set of contacts that switch from cooling mode to defrost mode every 8 to 10 hours. The timer knob can be turned clockwise slowly until a positive 'click' is felt, this is the defrost mode. Let it sit there for about 10 minutes and you should hear the hiss or sizzle, if not then we go a bit deeper.

#2 defrost heater, this heater is located on the bottom of the cooling coils behind the back panel in the freezer, it will run long enough to remove the frost from the evaporator coils and turn off by the defrost terminator or no longer than 25 minutes maximum

#3 defrost terminator or thermostat or bi metal, 3 names same part. This is clipped on to the evaporator coils near the top and senses the temperature, it is there so the defrost cycle does not run too long.

My amana upright gets cool but not cold enough to freeze probably not even as cold as a fidge. the problem started when we moved and stored it out in a shop that was partially heated. since then we have...

Good day,
Somewhat handicapped not knowing if it's a conventional freezer or frost free.
1. If it's frost free check to see if the fan motor is running in the freezer compartment.
2. As well if it has a fan motor in the compressor compartment, see if it is running as well.

3. If it is a conventional model, make sure it is turned on and make sure it is running. If running, then it has lost it's refrigerant charge or the compressor has lost it's pumping capacity.

4. If it is item 3, then unless it's less then 5 years old, the sealed
system/compressor problem is so pricey that it's not a practical repair. If under 5 years Amana will pay for these repairs, whether it's conventional or frost free.

Check the defrost timer, rotate it until a solid click is heard. If your unit starts to work replace that timer. Good Luck
