I hade just that prob. "format error" used to display. I did this:
1. dwl sonicStage (free)
2.- in the walkman went to menu/initialize/format
then displayed a confirmation screen, I confirmed
it displayed "formating...... COMPLETE"
3.- THEN plugged into the PC and transfered songs with Sonic
and it worked!

Download the latest sonic stage, use sonic stage to format it, then make sure you select the ATRAC format to copy over to the mp3 player as it needs a firmware update to play aac and mp3

"NO DATA"/"FORMAT ERROR" may appear and the tracks cannot be played when formatting on Windows explorer and transferring tracks from SonicStage.
In this case, format by MENU of the unit and transfer tracks again.

With my sony nw-e003f i got this far - reformatted, sonicstage has some REALLY bad press even so i was going to use it but it's no longer available. There seems to be no official (or other) workable replacement. I think the ball is in Sony's court to provide a way to make this device of theirs, not cheap either, work for the people who paid money for it.i don't care how old it is.

Digital music player nw-e013f sony, no audio songs play,

MP3 players can only play music files in mp3 file format. You can download mp3 music files from the Internet toyour computer and then copy them to your MP3 player. For your CD collection, you need to convert your CDs tomp3 music files onto your computer or download them from the Internet and thencopy them to your MP3 player after you have connected the USB cable tothe MP3 player and the computer.
You can do this using Windows Media player and Rip the CDs - Media Player willcreate a MP3 music file for each music track.Click on this link for instruction on converting musicfiles to mp3 file format :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r5798418-creating_transferring_mp3_music_files

I dont know how to put songs in my song nwe005

How do I Put Music on an NW-E003F Sony MP3 Player?

The Sony Walkman E003F is a small portable device resembling a flash drive. This Walkman has 1 GB of storage which accommodates about 685 songs. When the battery is at capacity, the Walkman can play back up to 28 hours of audio. The small player has a built-in USB connector to make downloading convenient. If you want to add songs to your MP3 player, you must use Windows Explorer to download MP3-, AAC- and WMA-formatted audio to the device.

Instructions

Remove the USB cap on the player to reveal the USB plug.

Insert the USB plug on the player into the computer's USB port.

Select "My Computer" from the desktop "Start" menu.

Double-click on the "WALKMAN" drive folder to open it.

Double-click to open the "MUSIC" folder.

Drag the audio file from the save location on the computer and drop it in the "MUSIC" folder. The songs will load and play in the order that they are dropped into the folder.

Hope it helped.
