I have a Pixma MX 7600 when I scan pics I have white specks all over the pictures. I've cleaned the top of the plate, wiped off the pic and used different pics. The specks remain and are the same specks on different Pics. Is it possible to dirt on the bottom of the plate?
I have the same problem and searched and searched for answers. I realized that no one knows what the hell they are talking about, or they pretend to know. Look to see if the white specks only appear in darker areas of the photos. Then scan the same picture twice and see if the specks are in the same spot as the other one. If they are in different areas then it is scanner noise. Some scanners cant read some darker colors perfectly and in return give you unread data or (white specks). I have not found a solution yet and I still need an answer how to make my crappy printer not give me specks in dark areas!
Yes, it is possible to have dirt on the bottom of the plate and it is possible to clean it as well. here is a link to the manual if you don't have one http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=2613&modelid=16506#SupportDetailAct
If you can't figure out how to remove the plate you can call canon directly and they will take you through the steps. Regards, Joe
Sorry i dont really get into cameras yet anyway

The manual didn't show negative and slide support. I recommend you some of the hp products like HP Photosmart C7180 All-in-One, HP Scanjet G3010, HP Scanjet G4010, etc.

There's probably nothing you can do for dust under the glass, but in the Advanced settings for your scanner, there is an option to turn on "Reduce Dust & Scratches", with three different 'strengths'. You may want to try this to see if it helps.

Think you need to clean the sponge that the ink cartridges sit on in the head tray they are probably blocked with dry ink. You can remove the print head and tray by lifting the lever and gently lifting it out..... go here http://www.inkjethelper.com/
to see how to carefully clean it with compressed air. I had to do this too.
