Screen Resolution

Click the "Start" menu. Click "Settings" and "Control Panel."

Choose "Display" and "Settings" in Windows 98, ME or XP. In Windows Vista, click "Appearance" and "Adjust Screen Resolution."

Click on the resolution bar and slide it to the right to lower the screen's resolution and to the left to raise the screen's resolution.

The optimum screen resolution usually depends on the size of the laptop screen.

The recommended resolution for a 15-inch screen is 1024 x 768, 17- to 19-inch screen is 1280 x 1024, and 20-inch screens is 1600 x 1200.

The monitor only displays either 1920x1080 resolution with Low (8 bit) color or 800x600 with High (32 bit) color. I have uninstalled the video card and monitor drivers and reinstalled them a million...

It appears that your video card does not support that resolution and color depth. If you've installed all of the proper drivers from the manufacturer, re-check the maximum specs - sounds like you're looking for HD (1080) and the card can't deliver in full color (32 bit).

Screen sizing

Your problem is that the correct video driver is not installed and therefore cannot use all the video RAM.(the XP version of the video driver won't work with Win98).
When you adjust to True color at a higher resolution it drops to a lower resolution because it has insufficent video RAM, but you will get a higher screen resolution at a 16 bit color because it requires less memory (video RAM).
Install the Win98 driver for the graphics card and then it can use the full video RAM at a higher screen resolution with 32 bit color.

Chimei CMV 938D 'Out of range' error message only when using DVI Connector on specific resolution and color depth

I know this sounds obvious but- I had the same problem, and turns out the cord want plugged in quite properly at the back of the monitor. This may not fix every problem, but, I suggest you check the cord pligged in at the back of the monitor is firmly in there and restart, then if you still get the problem, contact the company.

Monitor color display problem

Go to the control panel. Click on display. The display applet is your next stop. The display applet is your central location for all of your display settings, including resolution, refresh rate, driver info., and color depth. The display applet has 5 tabs: Thmes, Desktop, Screen Saver, Appearance, and Settings. The 5th tab is where you make adjustments that relate directly to your monitor and video card. Look at the Settings tab. At the bottom of the dialog box, you'll see 2 options. Screen Resolution and Color Quality. By moving the Screen Resolution slider, you can change the resolution. The most common resolutions are 640x480, 800x600, 1,024x768, and 1,280x1,024.Your system may have more or fewer resolution options.

The color quality is the number of colors displayed on the screen .You can change the screen resolution with a simple slider and adjust the color depth from 4-bit all the way up to 32-bit color.

Running a 32-bit color gives a nice, realistic tone to images, and many games insist on it.

Clicking the Advance button opens another dialog box with 4 or more tabs.

The monitor tab gives you details about the currently installed monitor and enables you to make changes to the driver and the refresh rate.

After you make your changes to your monitor and it still is not working properly, it must be your video card which is not seated.
In layman term, your video card is not plugged in firmly in the slot!!

Screen colors

possibly screen color depth is set to 16 colors. - open control panel display - settings tab, slide the color depth to 16 bit. - change resolution to 800 x 600 for now. reboot and see if that does the trick, then readjust settings to your tastes.
