The short answer would be yes. A more detailed answer can follow if you can update this with the model number. If you are getting just a hum without any other sound, the problem may be a poor connection inside the set. It is possible that the audio amplifier IC has failed as well. You can narrow this down a bit by connecting the audio output form the back of the set to a receiver. If the sound from that is OK, then the problem is likely to be the audio amp. This Ic generally costs around $20 or so.

Sound went out when watching sansui tv how to fix

More than likely you have blown out the speakers, Sansui is not a very good brand of TV, I have seen many, many people on here having issues with them, and their consumer reports are terrible. Typically with HD TV's it is cheaper to buy a new one than to try and pay a specialist to fix it. Make sure mute is not turned on though, if it isn't, and no sound is coming out, the speakers are probably done, Good Luck!

How do I GET THE HUMMING SOUND OUT

Hello
The audio output section of your tV has the fault. The main reason for HUM on output, is due to a shorted audio output IC. Never use the TV, until the fault has been rectified. Prologed use at this state will damge the speakers, and speakers may also be replaced. OK.

My onkyo tx-sr705 produces a humming noise out off all the speakers when no audio is played

I found the source of my hum. I have Direct TV HD. I found that going into the menu settings (Direct tv HD Receiver) /Audio/Sound Effects and turning that option off, I was able to rid myself of the annoying hum. The option has something to do with keeping the audio settings from channel to channel, while it is changing you hear dead air except for the hum. Nice and quit now. Love this receiver!

Humming noice

I have seen similar problems (features?) with Syntax LCD TVs. One thing to try is to make sure that the backlight brightness is set to its highest setting. On my Syntax, when this is set to a darker setting, it produces annoying hum through the speakers. Mine also is smart about turning *off* the audio amplifier when set to zero (or mute), which sounds like the behavior you are describing.
