Unfortunately was unable to find the hand held steamer in Lowes, HD, Ace, Target or Bed bath and beyond - unable to locate a place that will sell it on line either?
I removed the ice from the bottom of the freezer and put a small brush thru the drain which did not seem clogged. So far the problem has not been repeated. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Thanks again!!Thanks for the solution - this was helpful .

I have the same problem. Water would puddle up on the floor underneath the freezer side on the floor. When I checked the drain at the back, and base of the freezer by looking in the freezer compartment, and I noticed lots of ice everywhere except in the drain hole. I poured a little bit of warm water in the hole and it just sat there. so, not having a thin wire(or a steamer), I found a long stretch of yard trimmer line(green weed-eater type), and fed it about 12 inches into the water/drain hole. The line trimmer line seemed to hit a clogged area and pushed on in another inch, and the water I had poured in earlier went down the hole like I had flushed a toilet! I am keeping my fingers crossed that this solves the problem. Thanks, Fixya!
Your defrost drain is frozen or has algae blocking it its at the back of the freezer behind the evaporator cover. You can see it without removing the evaporator cover. You might or might not see the drain hole because of the ice now you can sit and poor hot water on it till it thaws then get a thin wire and run down the tube till its clear or sit there with a hair drier and thaw it .But if you don't mind a small investment ill tell you the best way to deal with it .Go to Lowe's or some where like that and buy you a eureka model 350 hand held steamer.Trust me it will be one of the best investments you'll ever make. You will find 1001 uses for it besides this and the steam will not damage your refrigerator and all the attachments make it very useful.remove the evaporator cover and take the steamer and melt the ice under the evaporator where the drain pan is. Then you will see the drain hole.Put the curved tip on the steamer an start clearing the drain hole now when you get it melted enough to where the curved tip makes a seal around the drain hole let the steam build then hold down the trigger till you hear it at the back of the refrigerator and your done put the evaporator cover back on then think of all the other uses for that steamer now I told whirlpool about it they tested it and now have it posted on their web site that will fix it easy. I hope this is good enough for a four box rateing lol

ck the drain in the back of freezer . it may be pluged and when it goes into defrost cycle you get about a cup of water on the floor . if there ice on bottom of freezer then the drain is iced over . some models require a drain heater to prevent this . mm hope this helps ..
Sounds like the defrost drain is cloged. There is a hole at the bottom of the freezer behind the back wall. if this is cloged then the water that is suppost to drain there will overflow and freez.
your refrig. goes through a periodic defrost cycle whereby this water is produced. It is supposed to travel down to the evaporation pan near the floor of the frig. Your evaportation pan may be clogged, remove the front lower panel and get a flashlight and examine it., or the tube leading from the freezer floor may be clogged or have ice it it. Check that out and if the opening of the tube has ice in it, melt it with a hair blow dryer
Hi: The tube in the back of the freezer is not clogged with ice. It is most likely clogged with mold below the freezer section just above the warm tray where the defrost water evaporates. Also a pea or other piece of debris could have gotten in there. Do your thawing again and pour some clorox water through it and use a pipe cleaner if it's a tough clog. I hope this helps, Jeff
Open the freezer door, remove the bottom tray, smash the ice on the floor with your fist to remove it. Now get a glass of hot water and pour it into the trough which is at the bottom of the back wall of the freezer. Allow a few minutes for the ice to melt then remove it with an ice pick or scrrewdriver. Once the ice is out, pour more hot water into the trough. Now take a long tube ( an old washer fill hose works perfectly) and stick one end in the hole in the trough. Now fill your mouth with warm water and blow it very hard through the tube. Once the drain is clear, pour some hot water and a very little amount of bleach through the hole.
Yes the drain is clogged and the water that supouse to go through became ice so it make it worse.Put hot water in the drain hole until it runs through,it'll go to an evaporative pan on top of the compresor to keep it warm and vaporize the water.
At some point the freezer got too cold and the drain froze (it is a poor design with a loop in the bottom). Once this freezes it will not thaw for a long time.
Here is what I did:
Remove all items from freezer and let it completely thaw
Pull unit away from wall to access rear
Cut loop off drain line where it hangs in drain pan
Place a bare copper wire (#12 will work) through the drain line and wrap it loosely around the heating coil above drain pan
Enjoy
Did this 6 months ago and have not had problem since
you can take a ook into the freezer sect its possible that the line has frozen, nad no longer is defrost water going into the drain but rather falling on to the floor of freezer and evnetually out the door
