My cameras broken lens

If lens does not appear to come out completely and camera gives error that means lens mechanism got broken internally and lens assembly will be replaced to solve the issue.
Lens replacement is not user level repair and local camera repair shop[ will do this job for you if camera is out of warranty.

lens af unit gear is broken, or lens af saft if broken, or lens af flex is broken.
or could be camera sub mirror spring is come out from mirror unit.

Any camera repair guy can repair these. A store that specifically sells digital camera can repair these cameras easily. This is actually a common problem for this camera and its cousin, the m525.

I have been tinkering with theses cameras. The lens for the m425 (and m525 ) can be removed and repaired manually. Since I am a amateur, my success rate is about 50%. It all depends on how jammed the lens. If anyone has good technique in manually repair these, I would like to know.

The one good thing is that lens can be removed and swapped out with another from a m425/m525 camera. I would look for broken cameras on eBay, ones with workings lens to replace your non-working lens

You probably have a broken CCD sensor. The lens can many times be repaired without having to replace it. Try to return to manufacturer. If you're out of warranty, there are third party place that fix them such as camera lens repair. There are also free camera repair guide website that show you how to replace the lens, the part is usually available on ebay.

well i guess you can try any camera shop to have it sent out for repair, but get a quote first. Often it is cheaper to replace the camera rather than have it repaired. If you have insurance you can make a claim for the repair depending on replacement cost

the gears within the lens housing are broken. flat rate if sent to sony usually is about 150 i know its almost the price you paid.

Hi , The lens cover error is because the stepper motor in the camera is unable to open the lens cover. I have a solution posted in doc "nikon s5 s6 lens cover error repair.doc"  uploaded on site http://www.esnips.com/web/papputatiyasStuff    It will be helpfull for you. You have written that your lense is broken. In that case you can follow the procedure given in my doc to open the camera. You can replace the camera lens if broken.

Lens gears are probably broken off, or other problem with lens. Will need to replace lens, or may possibly be repaired. I've repaired a few lenses with gears broken off, by replacing broken off posts with similar size plastic pieces(drilled holes and super glued in place, being very careful). Still working months after repaired. Olympus repair shops can replace anything needed, but at a HIGH price; sometimes cheaper to replace camera than to have them work on it.

The lens needs to be repaired or replaced. Could be one of several problems, sand, impact damage, broken gears. A professional camera repair shop should be able to do this for a reasonable price.
